Job Description
The Dispatcher supports the Transportation Manager with directing and coordinating the day-to-day operations of transportation and third-party driver service providers. The Dispatcher is primarily responsible for fielding incoming calls and emails to the department, overseeing the schedule, distributing paperwork and direction to drivers, and maintaining reports as needed. This role also serves as a back-up to the Router.
Responsibilities Include:
- Field incoming calls from drivers, Sales Reps, Customer Service, and other partners; address issues, escalating or triage as needed.
- Support Transportation Manager/Supervisor with staffing and scheduling plan by fielding driver call outs / vacation schedules and adjusting operational plans.
- Distribute required paperwork to drivers each morning and support them with questions or special-order needs.
- Monitor driver performance in the field to ensure routes are being executed efficiently and as planned.
- Communicate with appropriate departments to ensure that all orders satisfy Sales Department order submission requirements.
- Check-in Drivers returning from the field; support with paperwork, returned products, equipment and updating tickets in the ERP.
- Act as an extension of management and provide direction to the transportation team by coordinating and assigning daily activities; make recommendations to management on driver performance or training needs.
- Communicate frequently and thoroughly with warehouse, customer service, sales and other internal partners on department operations that impact the business.
- Monitor the Transportation email inbox in partnership with router.
- Investigate customer complaints regarding lost or damaged merchandise or shortages in shipment to determine responsibility.
- Perform routine filing and maintenance of records.
- Other duties as assigned.
Back-Up Routing Responsibilities:
- Control driver, truck and route productivity by ensuring that each truck carries a full load. Schedule loads to minimize the use of third-party drivers.
- Review delivery tickets to select the correct route based on the destination, shipment size and customer time requirements as well as other customer needs for each delivery address.
- Select specific trucks for each route based on volume and equipment availability.
- Develop enough picking routes by the start of 2nd shift at 2pm
- Maintain daily dispatch log containing start times, driver, route number, and material handling equipment required for each delivery truck.
- Maintain Omnitracs database of customer locations, time windows and other information as directed by the Transportation Manager
- Schedule shipments to ensure compliance with DOT regulations and company policy. Ensure that all DOT regulations are enforced.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
- At least one year of dispatching experience
- Experienced with Omnitracs / Mobile cast preferred.
- Basic proficiency with Word and Excel
- Experience with A+ operating software or similar ERP
- Basic knowledge of the distribution industry and DOT compliance
- Familiarity or ability to learn the DMV delivery area to ensure optimal routing of deliveries.
- Willingness to work overtime as required.

The pay range for this role is
$23.00-$25.00/hour. This range represents what the company reasonably expects to pay an associate for this role based on current market data, internal equity, and other business factors. The actual compensation offered may vary depending on factors such as relevant experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other considerations.
