Primary shift will be 3:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. but may work irregular hours and/or shifts, including occasional weekends or holidays.

About this Position
Responsible for the protection of this facility and its members against fire, theft, hazardous conditions and illegal or unauthorized entry to OSU-OKC. Monitor radio transmissions and respond to assigned calls and emergency calls for service. Complete incident reports and daily activity reports. Perform vehicle and foot patrols, which are essential to the physical safety and security of students, visitors, employees, and campus partners.
Required Qualifications
  • High School/GED (Must maintain 16 hours of continuing education after hire).
  • One-year responsible work experience.
Certifications, Registrations, and/or Licenses:
  • Current, licensed unarmed security guard (Phase I and II) from the Council on Law Enforcement Education and Training (CLEET).
  • Must maintain required hours of CLEET approved courses per year.
  • Valid Oklahoma drivers' license; good driving record.
Skills, Proficiencies, and/or Knowledge:
  • Excellent ability to verbalize instructions, directions or other types of communication to a diverse population of staff, faculty, students and visitors to campus.
  • Must be fluent in English, both orally and in writing.
  • Strong attention to detail to detect irregularities and change of environment.
  • Strong ability to calmly handle and/or diffuse chaotic or hostile situations.
  • Ability to use radio to receive and dispatch emergency information.
  • Must be able to evaluate safety requirements for the health and safety of all faculty, staff and students on campus.
  • Mature and professional demeanor.
  • Must continuously demonstrate a professional and courteous disposition toward students, visitors, and employees. Patience, tact and good judgment are mandatory requirements for this position.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize effectively with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate diplomatically, clearly, and effectively, both verbally and in writing to exchange information, give/receive instructions and respond to inquiries appropriately with all students, faculty, staff and community partners.
  • High degree of initiative to work independently and collaborate in a team environment.
  • Knowledge of office technologies including but not limited to office computers, fax machines, scanners, internet, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Passion for assisting customers and representing the OSU-OKC and OSU brand with positivity and professionalism.
  • History of ethical and professional behavior.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Associate degree in police science, occupational/environmental safety or a related field.
  • Previous experience as a security guard/officer or related safety field.
  • Experience working in an educational environment.
Essential Job Functions:
  1. Provide customer service and assistance as needed.
  2. You must wear issued uniform, uniform articles and uniform accessories.
  3. Officers are responsible for buying and maintaining other uniforms, uniform articles and uniform accessories as required by the department. Sufficient quantities of uniform items shall be procured and maintained to ensure the highest possible standard of personal hygiene and appearance.
  4. Participate with team members both in the department and the University to set and attain established goals and objectives.
  5. Respond appropriately to new and different situations by using creativity, innovation and initiative to identify solutions to problems.
  6. Conform to all OSU System, city, state and federal laws and regulations.
  7. Provide clear and concise staff reports for managerial/Administrative action. Keeps supervisor informed of concerns.
  8. Able to respond quickly in emergency situations.
  9. Able to take appropriate action when needed, in the event of an emergency, to handle incidents/situations effectively and professionally and coordinates with Administration in the event of a crisis.
  10. Patrol campus buildings and parking lots, by foot and vehicle. Check doors, windows and other areas to ensure they are accessible or properly secured.
  11. Adhere to instructions concerning all opening and closing of classrooms, buildings, events or other functions that would have an impact on the campus.
  12. Act as the liaison between law enforcement agencies and OSU-OKC as necessary.
  13. Evaluate condition of all parking areas, to include outdoor lighting, and make recommendations concerning any maintenance and repairs required.
  14. Ensure that fleet vehicles are properly secured. Assists in maintenance, safety and cleanliness of vehicles.
  15. Assist Safety Coordinator with health and safety to eliminate unsafe and unhealthy working conditions.
  16. Assist in the safety of the campus to include checking utilities, mechanical, electrical and storage areas for unusual or unsecure situations.
  17. Attend required in-service and other training programs as required regardless of shift hours.
  18. Complete all mandatory training and participate in a minimum of two professional development training courses each year.
  19. Perform additional duties as assigned.

  • Extensive standing and/or walking; Occasional bending/stooping, squatting/ crouching and pushing/pulling; Manual dexterity/visual ability to operate a motor vehicle, computer and radio.
  • Repetitive movement of hand/wrist.
  • Duties require extensive use of computers, telephones and other office equipment.
