Job description

Georgia Military College announces a part-time opening for public safety officers for the Milledgeville campus. The part-time schedule consists of a mix of weekends, some holidays and either first, second or third shift for various campus activities that are scheduled depending on the agreed schedule for which the candidate is available.

Major Duties:

  • Patrols the campus to detect and deter criminal activity and maintain the security of facilities; escorts all unauthorized individuals from the campus grounds.
  • Patrols the campus to control the flow of traffic and ensure that vehicles are parked in authorized areas.
  • Checks the physical security of campus facilities to prevent theft and vandalism.
  • Provides security for all athletic, social and political functions occurring on campus, including providing traffic control, crowd control, and property protection services.
  • Completes all required reports and forms, including accident and incident reports.
  • Officers are expected to secure physical structures on the campus and maintain a daily log of entries of activities
  • Enforce College Rules and Regulations
  • Enforces parking regulations and issues citations
  • Reports safety and security hazards to supervisors
  • Work performed in indoor and outdoor environment
  • This role is considered a position of trust.
  • Work schedule is shift work based on needs of the college and may include days, nights, weekends, holidays, and include special events on the campus

Abilities:

  • The ability to safely operate a motor vehicle, including for the purposes of emergency response
  • The ability to handle situations firmly, courteously and tactfully, with respect for the rights of others
  • The ability to physically check buildings, and lock or unlock facilities as needed to support the operations of Georgia Military College 
  • The ability to react quickly and calmly under emergency conditions
  • The ability to use radio systems to dispatch and receive calls for service
  • The ability to walk, run, and stand for prolonged periods of time

Knowledge Requirements:

  • High school diploma/GED equivalent required
  • Must be 21 years of age
  • Must have Valid Driver's License
  • Must have EXCELLENT interpersonal skills and excellent skills dealing with the general public
  • Must have knowledge or experience with computers and/or job related software programs
  • Ability to read, write and perform mathematical calculations commonly associated with completion of high school level or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of relevant federal and state laws, campus regulations, and college policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of radio communication codes.
  • Knowledge of GCIC operations
  • Knowledge of the physical layout of the campus and surrounding area.
  • Skill in responding to emergency situations, administering first aid and CPR.
  • Skill in oral and written communication 
  • Skill in operating a patrol vehicle and various emergency and communications equipment.
  • Preferred Educational Qualifications
    Preferred attainment of an Associate's Degree from an accredited college or university
  • Additional Preferred Qualifications
    Preferred certification as a peace officer pursuant to the rules of the Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training Council
