Job description

Duration:12+ Months (possibility of extension)

Job Duties:

  • The agency will provide staff who can perform tasks that include dishwashing and heavy-duty cleaning.
  • Staff should be able to separate food waste, trash, and recyclables from delivery carts and discard/store them in the appropriate container.
  • Staff should be able to scrape, soak, scour, and scrub cookware and utensils. Staff should be able to sort, stack, and rack tray ware for loading into the dish machine and operate the dish machine.
  • Staff should be able to pull clean trayware from the dish machine, place clean and air-dried pots and pans, and store sanitized dishes, glasses, and silverware in designated areas.
  • Staff should be able to clean and sanitize pots and pans by hand using a three-compartment sink, clean and sterilize equipment, and sanitize work areas.
  • Staff should be able to sweep and mop designated areas.
  • Staff should be able to clean dirty carts by hand and/or use a cart wash, including removing and positioning them to dry after washing is complete.
  • Staff should be able to empty trash, recycling, and compost from kitchen areas to the waste receptacle located outside in designated containers.
  • Staff should be able to retrieve soiled carts from patient units and deliver clean carts to designated units.
  • Staff should interact appropriately with veterans, their representatives, visitors, and all VA staff in a courteous, tactful, and respectful manner.
  • BG and DT are required.

Food Handler Certificate Requirements:

  • Personnel shall hold a current Food Handler Certificate from ServSafe or an ANAB-accredited or ANSI-approved program to start employment at VHAPORHCS.
