Major Responsibilities

  • Emergency Medical Response
    Respond promptly to emergency calls, assess patient conditions, and provide appropriate pre-hospital care in accordance with established protocols.

  • Patient Assessment and Stabilization
    Perform physical assessments, obtain vital signs, and administer life-saving interventions such as CPR, bleeding control, and airway management.

  • Safe Patient Transport
    Safely transport patients to medical facilities while monitoring and continuing care en route, ensuring patient comfort and safety.

  • Infection Control and Safety Compliance
    Adhere to OSHA standards and universal precautions to prevent exposure to bloodborne pathogens and infectious materials.

  • Documentation and Reporting
    Accurately document patient care, observations, and interventions in electronic or written reports for medical and legal purposes.

  • Equipment Maintenance and Readiness
    Inspect, clean, and maintain medical equipment and supplies to ensure readiness for emergency response.

Minimum Job Requirements

Education

High school diploma or GED.

Completion of a state-approved Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) training program.

Certification / Registration / License

Current EMT certification through the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT).

Valid unencumbered Georgia state EMT license.

Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.

Work Experience

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

This position requires the ability to lift, carry, and maneuver patients and equipment weighing up to 100 pounds. EMTs must frequently stand, walk, bend, kneel, and reach while providing emergency care, often in physically demanding and high-stress situations. Fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination are essential for operating medical equipment and performing life-saving procedures. Adequate visual and auditory acuity is necessary to assess patients and respond effectively to emergencies. Preferred Job Requirements

Education

Associate degree in Emergency Medical Services, Health Sciences, or a related field

Certification / Registration / License

Advanced certifications such as Advanced EMT (AEMT) or Paramedic

Experience

Experience in high-volume EMS systems, trauma response, or critical care transport

Prior work in rural, urban, or disaster response environments

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

Familiarity with electronic patient care reporting (ePCR) systems
