Provide and oversee comprehensive occupational and urgent care services for employees, dependents, and retirees of the Sheriff's Office, ensuring high-quality clinical outcomes, regulatory compliance, and alignment with the Occupational Health and Wellness Center's mission and standards of care.Job Description
Duties & ResponsibilitiesDuties may vary based on assignment.
Provide direct patient care in a workers' compensation, employee health, and urgent care setting.
Participate in the coordination and management of patient care through collaboration with healthcare providers to support optimal clinical outcomes and case closure.
Engage in cross-functional collaboration to coordinate occupational health services, support case management, and ensure continuity of care.
Participate in a rotating on-call schedule to provide after-hours telephone guidance for occupational exposure incidents, assess exposure risks, and determine appropriate testing, treatment, and follow-up care.
Conduct or participate in contact tracing activities following occupational exposure incidents to identify potentially exposed individuals; coordinate notifications, and ensure appropriate medical evaluation, testing, and follow-up.
Follow established policies, procedures, objectives, and recommended referral practices.
Participate in agency and facility in-services, staff meetings, and other clinic operational functions.
Manage, orient, train, and provide clinical supervision to Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants and abide by all associated rules and regulations.
Work with medical management team to identify and implement changes for continuous medical clinic improvement.
Assist the Chief Medical Director with administrative tasks and the delivery of medical care.
Serve as Acting Chief Medical Officer as required.
Perform other related duties as required.
Knowledge of computerized information systems used in business applications and clinical management systems (EMR).
Knowledge of current principles, methods, and procedures for the delivery of medical evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment.
Knowledge of the urgent and occupational medicine fields.
Knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations, including the requirements of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and applicable state rules and regulations pertinent to medical practices.
Ability to meet necessary accreditation and certification requirements and to maintain all appropriate licenses.
Ability to perform duties in accordance with the customary rules of ethics and conduct of the applicable State Board of Medicine and other such regulating bodies.
Ability to maintain quality, safety, and infection control standards.
Ability to safely operate a motor vehicle.
Work in a medical facility for employees within a law enforcement agency.
Risk of exposure to bloodborne or airborne pathogens, bodily fluids, chemical or biological toxins, and contagious diseases.
Stand/sit at a keyboard or workstation for prolonged periods.
May engage in moderate physical exertion (e.g., lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling objects and materials up to 25 pounds).
May travel to various work sites using a Sheriff's Office-issued vehicle (e.g., car, full-size van, full-size pickup truck) to perform essential duties.
Work standard business hours.
May work non-standard hours including nights, weekends, and holidays.
In the event of an emergency or disaster, may be required to respond promptly to duties and responsibilities as assigned by management chain, Division/District Commander, or the Sheriff (or their designee). Such assignments may be for before, during or after the emergency/disaster.
Possession of a Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.) degree from an accredited program
Completion of an accredited Residency Program
Board Certified/Board Eligible in a specialty field of medicine
Active, unrestricted Florida medical license (or eligible)
No disciplinary actions or complaints on current or past medical license
Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) license with no restrictions
Three years of experience as a practicing physician
Attendance at the specified Sheriff's Office work location is required.
Depending on assignment, employees may be required to possess a valid Florida Driver License at time of employment. Driving history will be thoroughly reviewed and may be grounds for disqualification.
No visible tattoos on face, head, and neck. Tattoos determined to take away from the professional appearance of the Sheriff's Office must be covered with an appropriate white, black, or neutral covering.
No illegal drug sale within lifetime.
No illegal drug use within the past 36 months. No marijuana use within the last 12 months.
No felony convictions within lifetime.
No misdemeanor convictions involving perjury, false statement, or domestic violence within lifetime.
No dishonorable discharge from any branch of the United States Armed Forces, the United States Coast Guard, National Guard, or Reserve Forces.
Successful completion of a background investigation including criminal, reference, employment, and neighborhood checks; polygraph; medical evaluation; and drug screening.
Live within Hillsborough County or within Citrus, Hardee, Hernando, Lake, Manatee, Pasco, Pinellas, Polk, Sarasota, or Sumter County as long as the residence is located within the 60-mile parameter of Falkenburg Road Jail at the time of appointment/employment (certified only).

Preferred Qualifications
Board Certified/Board Eligible in Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Occupational Medicine, Emergency Medicine, or Preventative Medicine.
Two years of clinical experience in an emergency medicine, urgent care, or ambulatory care setting.
Strong computer knowledge and experience with electronic medical records.
Experience with simple office procedures.
