Description
The Dougherty County District Attorney's Office is hiring on a continuous basis for a Senior Assistant District Attorney. The purpose of this position is to prosecute complex felony crimes committed in Dougherty County. Assist the elected District Attorney by managing the daily operations of the department.
This class works under administrative supervision, developing and implementing programs within organizational policies and reports major activities to executive level administrators through conferences and reports.
Essential Tasks
• Supervises, directs, and evaluates assigned staff, processing employee concerns and problems, directing work, counseling, disciplining, and completing employee performance appraisals.
• Coordinates, assigns and reviews work and establishes work schedules; maintains standards; monitors status of work in progress; inspects completed work assignments; answers questions; gives advice and direction as needed.
• Serves as lead counsel for the State of Georgia in the prosecution and trial of felony crimes in the Superior Court of Dougherty County and Supreme Court of Georgia.
• Advocate on behalf of the State in cases appealed to the Georgia Court of Appeals and the Supreme Court of Georgia.
• Reviews and evaluates case files and makes decisions regarding proper disposition.
• Performs trial preparation through reviewing police and medical reports; consults with police during pretrial and pre-arrest stages.
• Selects cases for trial; responds to defense motions; interviews witnesses; obtains and reviews evidence; research law and issues; represents the state at all pre-trial motions.
• Compiles witness lists; confirms all required subpoenas are issued; arraigns defendants.
• Prepares and presents cases to the Grand Jury for indictment.
• Performs related work as assigned.
Minimum Qualification
• Juris Doctorate.
• Eight (8) years of courtroom trial experience, preferably with felony violations or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience

Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement.
• Performs sedentary work that involves walking or standing some of the time and involves exerting up to 10 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis or sustained keyboard operations.

Special Certifications And Licenses:
• Licensed to practice law in the state of Georgia.
• Must possess and maintain a valid state driver's license with an acceptable driving history.
