This is a 10-month appointment with a 4/4 teaching load (with potential to adjunct over the summer), serving as a lead faculty member for our undergraduate concentration in Strength & Conditioning within the Fitness & Sport Studies major and as an instructor in our graduate Master of Professional Studies in Kinesiology (MPS-KIN) program. The successful candidate will be a critical addition to the department, serving as one of the two CSCS-credentialed faculty members required by the Council on Accreditation of Strength and Conditioning Education (CASCE) accreditation (pending as of Fall 2026). Ph.D. and CSCS required (ABD considered); C-ISSN preferred.

About the Opportunity

This position offers a unique opportunity to lead the application of human performance within a department aggressively pursuing national distinction. This faculty member will be the primary subject-matter expert in strength & conditioning and sport performance nutrition and the director of the Human Performance Laboratory. Primary Responsibilities

Teaching & Curriculum Development (Primary Focus)

  • Serve as the lead instructor and subject matter expert for specialized content in strength & conditioning and sport performance nutrition.
  • Teach undergraduate courses within the Department of Kinesiology, serving all four majors, and graduate-level courses within the MPS-KIN program. This position will also serve Lipscomb Core Journey (our general education program).
  • Maintain and refine curriculum to ensure 100% alignment with CASCE professional standards and core competencies.
  • Maintain excellence in teaching with a 4/4 course load (fall/spring).

Student Leadership & Mentoring

  • Pursue applied research in strength & conditioning, sport nutrition, or human performance.
  • Engage with professional organizations (NSCA, ISSN, ACSM) to keep the program at the forefront of industry trends.

Service & Community Engagement

  • Participate in departmental, college, and university committee assignments.
  • Contribute to the university's mission through adherence to Lipscomb's values and Centering Core.

Required Qualifications

  • Doctoral degree (PhD, EdD, or DSc) in Kinesiology, Exercise Science, or a closely related field.
  • Active Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) credential (mandatory for CASCE compliance).
  • Demonstrated expertise in both strength & conditioning and sport nutrition.
  • Alignment with Lipscomb University's Christian mission, values, and Centering Core.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with the CASCE accreditation process.
  • Additional credentials such as C-ISSN (Certified Sports Nutritionist)
