Job Summary:

Simply Southern is a nationally recognized apparel brand that celebrates the preppy American lifestyle. Founded in Greensboro, NC in 2005, Simply Southern has been creating vibrant, catchy t-shirts and clothing for more than a decade. Simply Southern began as a small apparel kiosk in a mall in 2005. Today, Simply Southern is sold by over 6,000 independent retailers and has 34 of our own retail stores throughout 16 states. Between our corporate office, production facility, and retail locations, Simply Southern employs over 400 people. Simply Southern is passionate about helping the less fortunate and using our success for good. Simply Southern donates to a variety of organizations but are best known for our efforts to help sea turtle conservation and ChildFund International. To date, Simply Southern has donated over $6 million in cash and merchandise.

Simply Southern is looking to hire a skilled Assistant Controller to provide financial and administrative services. The Assistant Controller will work with the CFO and Director of Accounting and HR to assist with the daily accounting activities and month end procedures. The Assistant Controller will also work to assist the accounting team as first point of contact to ensure vendors get paid for products and services rendered and customers receive and pay invoices in a timely manner. In addition, this role will serve as a resource for special projects as needed. They will need to have excellent organization and time management skills as well as the ability to effectively multi-task. This position will require technical knowledge of general ledger and accounting procedures, good communication skills, and the ability to self-start, work independently, and meet deadlines.

Duties/Responsibilities:

Coordinate and manage the month-end closing process.

Assist with monthly bank reconciliations.

Mange and submit sales and property tax returns.

Communicate and meet with the CFO and Director of Accounting and HR on a weekly basis to ensure all activity is appropriately accounted for.

Prepare support and related entries for month-end accruals.

Perform primary review of monthly reconciliations.

Create and enter journal entries.

Process 1099s yearly.

Perform other related duties as necessary or assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities:

Proven work experience as an accounting clerk or manager.

Proven ability to calculate, post, and manage accounting figures and financial records.

Proficient in accounting software (Sage 100, Acumatica, or similar software preferred).

Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Excel, or similar software.

Education and Experience:

Associate Degree in Accounting preferred.

Three years or more of related experience required.

Physical Requirements:

Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
