Position Overview
We are looking for an experienced General Manager to assist with opening our brand-new Event Center. The General Manager is to oversee the daily operations and provide strategic direction for the property. This position will plan and supervise all activities, as well as an extensive and diverse workforce and will ensure a smooth and profitable operation. This position shall provide excellent leadership as well as a creative mindset for strategy and Event Planning. Success will be defined through high financial performance and overall leadership. The General Manager must have the ability to anticipate issues and problem solve well.
Event Center General Manager Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Solicit and maintain network of prospective clients and influencers for Event Center solutions.
  2. Be effective in cold calling and networking activities to generate leads and overall interest in our Event Center solutions.
  3. Understand the client needs, strategies and goals in order to recommend and sell appropriate Event Center product or professional service solutions to meet client needs.
  4. Ensure all areas are properly handling alcohol beverages in accordance with State and Federal Liquor policies.
  5. Move throughout facility and kitchen areas to visually monitor and take action to ensure food and beverage quality and service standards are met. Give guidance toward improvement and make necessary adjustments for consistency.
  6. Utilize computer to accurately charge customers, create forecast and revenue reports, and write correspondence.
  7. Interview, hire, train, supervise, counsel, review performance and discipline Event staff.
  8. Participate in interviewing, hiring, reviewing performance and discipline of supervisory personnel.
  9. Observe safety and legal requirements as to health and labor department requirements.
  10. Manage and direct the maintenance and upkeep of the entire facility.
  11. Ensure that all departmental work schedules are compliant with staffing guidelines and that staffing levels are sufficient to provide service in accordance with company staffing guidelines and operating budget.
  12. Organize and conduct pre-shift and departmental meetings communicating pertinent information to the staff, such as guest count and menu changes. Schedule and direct staff in their work assignments.
  13. Interact with guests and always represent the best interest of the Jeff Ruby experience.
  14. Implement and manage training programs, merchandising and quality cost control of the entire Event Center.
  15. Communicate effectively with all departments and with Supervisors.
  16. Maintain business contact with clients, purveyors, colleagues in other restaurants and health and fire officials.
  17. Develop and maintain strong 3rd party vendor relationships - with florist, ice sculpture artist, AV, etc.
  18. Mentor the Manager’s beneath the GM and prepare them for next Leadership role.
  19. Responsible for economical purchase and control of china, glass, silver, linen and all other food and beverage equipment.
  20. Maintain profitability of Event Center, develop, institute and monitor revenue enhancement programs and expense reductions, and achieve budgeted revenues and expenses. Recommend cost saving and profit enhancing measures.
  21. Respond professionally and promptly to inquiries for Catering amp; Private Events, through phone, email and CRM (currently Tripleseat) and complete the sales cycle
    • Private Events consist of business dinners/meetings, banquets, social events, and the like held in a Private Event Space
    • Catering offsite
    • Meet with Event Guests to discuss requirements for the event, such as number of guests, appropriate room, room set-up needs, menu choices and costs. Confers about other services such as decorations, flowers, photographer, audiovisual, music or other entertainment. Coordinates arrangements and ensure execution for all such aspects.
    • Draws up contract with guests covering all the agreed upon services and terms.
    • Develop and keep a line of communication with Managers, service staff and kitchen through effective use of Banquet Event Orders (BEOs) and communication systems.
    • Sends out post event thank-you, gifts, etc.
  22. Maintains knowledge of the local market, competition, and demand generators and presents Marketing opportunities
  23. Skilled in math and algebraic equations using percentages
  24. Other projects as assigned by VP of Operations
Experience: Minimum of 5 years management experience in Food amp; Beverage Operations and/or Event Management. Must possess excellent people skills and verbal and written communication skills. Full flexibility to accommodate varying schedules to reflect the business needs of the Event Center.
Preferred Education: 4-year degree or equivalent experience
