Job description

Position Summary:

The RN, Intensive Care provides advanced, high-acuity nursing care to critically ill and unstable patients requiring continuous monitoring, rapid intervention, and complex clinical management. This role performs comprehensive assessments, interprets physiologic data, and works closely with intensivists and interdisciplinary team members to support timely, informed treatment decisions. As part of a highly skilled, collaborative ICU team, the RN assists with emergent procedures, supports safe transitions of care, and ensures documentation reflects accurate, real-time clinical information. Through vigilant observation, critical thinking, and compassionate communication, this position promotes optimal outcomes for patients and families during their most vulnerable moments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform comprehensive assessments and ongoing monitoring of critically ill patients, promptly responding to changes in condition and escalating concerns as needed.
  • Administer medications, vasoactive infusions, blood products, and advanced therapies in accordance with ICU protocols and individualized care plans.
  • Assist physicians with complex procedures, manage ventilators and invasive lines, and ensure accurate interpretation and documentation of clinical data.
  • Educate patients and families regarding treatment plans, ICU processes, and discharge expectations to support understanding during high-stress situations.
  • Collaborate with the interdisciplinary care team during rounds and throughout the shift to coordinate care, plan interventions, and promote continuity across transitions.
  • Maintain meticulous documentation and participate in unit-based safety, quality, and performance-improvement activities.

Licenses and Certifications Required:

  • Current or temporary RN license in North Dakota or compact RN licensure.
  • BLS certification required within orientation period.
  • Specialty certification in area of practice is desirable.

Educational Requirements:

  • RN program as evidenced by licensure.
  • Official diploma or transcript from the school/university from where Degree was received.

Experience Requirements:

  • Hospital experience is preferred, but not required.

Special Skills or Training Requirements:

  • As required by specific units.

Physical Requirements:

The RN, Intensive Care frequently stands, walks, and moves between patient rooms while managing multiple monitoring devices and life-support equipment.
