Job description

The Director, Risk Management opportunity offers the opportunity for an individual to join a Risk Management Department focused on driving risk management throughout the business. This entails promoting and fostering a Culture of Risk within the organization, by leading by example and raising the level of awareness of all employees of the risk management principles and techniques utilized to minimize risk and hazards within our business. A successful individual will demonstrate the value that risk management represents to an organization through their knowledge, experience and drive for excellence and continuous improvement.
Job Responsibilities
  • Oversee the re-implementation and administration of the risk management software system and program (Riskonnect) to implement a qualitative and quantitative risk analysis approach, identify potential issues and recommend changes to senior management in support of organizational goals and objectives. Primary use of the system will center around insurance compliance for tenants, contractors and vendors. Including the training of system users throughout the business and the issuance of insurance approvals.
  • Conducts risk analysis throughout the organization to ensure risk data is captured, risk mitigation strategies and controls are developed, and appropriate reporting mechanisms are in place for each business unit.
  • Oversees and provides direction to departments regarding risk exposure by participating in risk assessments, analysis of process workflows, procedure review, monitoring risk measures to identify potential gaps and weaknesses in order to submit recommendations for change. Follows up with business units to ensure resolution or escalation of identified risk gaps occurred.
  • Manages the communication of the Risk Management program mission and value proposition to business units and establish productive working relationships with business unit leadership team responsible for risk related activities.
  • Contributes to organizational goals and priorities as a member of Management team. Establishes and implements plans that have short-term (1-2 year) impact on business results in alignment with organization objectives.
  • Review insurance provisions and requirements for contracts, leases, and work letters.
  • Review insurance provisions in access agreements, license agreements, and purchase orders.
  • Interaction with Construction Management teams.
  • Interaction with Asset/Property Management teams.
  • Deliver effective presentations to all levels of an organization on an individual basis or as part of a team.
  • Manage a workload effectively and efficiently with limited guidance from a supervisor.
  • Assist in gathering information for annual insurance procurement including property, casualty, and other possible insurance coverage lines.
  • Review policies, procedures, and insurance details to ensure information remains current and effective.
  • Assess asset values and evaluate exposures associated with insured properties.
  • Work closely with legal partners on matters involving claims and related documentation.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements
  • Experience with RMI Systems, Riskonnect being a plus.
  • 5-7 years of risk control, risk management, or safety experience preferred.
  • Ability to monitor industry developments and recommend updates to improve risk management practices.
  • Skill in exploring alternative approaches to insurance and strategies to manage overall cost.
  • Previous experience preparing forecasts and loss related studies to support planning and decision making.
  • Capacity to support leadership needs and take on additional responsibilities within the department.
  • Competent with MS Office products.
  • Strong verbal, writing, and presentation skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize assignments.
  • Strong communication skills when collaborating across internal functions and external advisors.

Qualifications
  • A bachelor's degree in finance, risk management, insurance, management, or a related field.
  • Professional certifications in the area of claims management, Associate in Risk Management designation, or CPCU designation preferred.
  • Relevant experience may be considered in place of formal education.
  • 5+ years of experience supporting or managing risk programs involving complex insurance needs.
  • Strong understanding of property and liability concepts and related insurance practices.

What we offer
At Kilroy, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within the role. The base pay range for this role is between $175,000 and $210,000 and your base pay will depend on your skills, experience and training, knowledge, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. This role is eligible for an annual discretionary bonus as well.
