Director Remote Fpga Engineer information

What is a director remote FPGA engineer?

A Director Remote FPGA Engineer is a senior-level leader who oversees the development and implementation of FPGA (Field-Programmable Gate Array) solutions, often managing a distributed team working remotely. This role involves setting the strategic direction for FPGA projects, guiding engineering teams, ensuring project delivery, and collaborating with other departments such as hardware, software, and product management. In addition to deep technical expertise in FPGA design and architecture, the director is responsible for resource planning, mentoring engineers, and ensuring that the team adheres to best practices and industry standards.

How does a director remote FPGA engineer typically collaborate with cross-functional teams while working remotely?

As a Director Remote FPGA Engineer, you will frequently coordinate with hardware, software, and project management teams using digital collaboration tools like video conferencing, shared repositories, and project management platforms. Strong communication skills are essential, as you'll be responsible for aligning priorities, clarifying technical requirements, and resolving design challenges across distributed teams. Regular virtual meetings and clear documentation help ensure smooth project progress and maintain alignment among stakeholders, even when working from different locations.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a director remote FPGA engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Director Remote FPGA Engineer, you need deep expertise in digital design, FPGA development, and team leadership, often supported by an advanced degree in electrical engineering or a related field. Familiarity with HDL languages (such as VHDL or Verilog), simulation and synthesis tools, and project management systems is essential, along with relevant certifications like Xilinx or Altera. Strong communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills enable effective remote collaboration and strategic oversight of engineering projects. These skills ensure the successful delivery of complex FPGA solutions while leading and coordinating distributed engineering teams.

Job description

We're building safety-enhancing technology for aviation that will save lives. Automated aviation systems will enable a future where air transportation is safer, more convenient and fundamentally transformative to the way goods - and eventually people - move around the planet. We are a team of mission-driven engineers with experience across aerospace, robotics and self-driving cars working to make this future a reality.
We believe aircraft should fly themselves. Automated aviation systems will enable a future where air transportation is safer, more convenient, and fundamentally transformative to the way goods - and eventually people - move around the planet. We are a team of mission-driven engineers with experience across aerospace, robotics, and self-driving cars working to make this future a reality.
As a Sr. FPGA Certification Engineer at Reliable Robotics, you will be a part of the FPGA team which owns the firmware at the heart of our phased array radar. Phased array radar systems have historically been reserved for specialized applications, but we're making this technology affordable to enable Detect and Avoid for widespread commercial applications. The passion for revolutionary technology to make aviation safer motivates us to come in every day.
Responsibilities
In your role as a Sr. FPGA Certification Engineer, you will be responsible for the entire certification lifecycle of the FPGA. You will author DO-254 plans and standards, develop compliant processes for peer review and testing, perform qualification of relevant design and verification tools, and develop strategies for efficient verification of the product. You will guide verification through execution and coordinate certification activities with the FAA and relevant DERs. Your contributions will directly enable the efficient realization of safe and dependable airborne electronic hardware at Reliable Robotics.
Basic Success Criteria
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or equivalent
  • 10+ years of full-cycle aviation electronics hardware development experience
  • Experience with safety-critical FPGA certification in a DO-254 level A/B process
  • Professional experience designing and/or verifying FPGA digital logic using industry-standard design, simulation, and synthesis tools

Preferred Criteria
  • Advanced degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or equivalent
  • Experience working with RADAR or RF transceivers
  • Proven track record of product ownership including development and field support
  • Comfortable with a fast-paced, agile/iterative development life cycle
  • Pragmatic, results-oriented work style

FPGA engineers at Reliable Robotics have a unique opportunity to work within a vertically integrated technology stack that extends up to the aircraft level, with a direct impact on the aircraft's capabilities and requirements. They execute a focused mission to establish the foundation of Reliable's technology roadmap. We are a fast-paced team that gets results. With your experience, motivation, skills, and enthusiasm, you'll help the team accomplish amazing things.
