Job description

Ameresco, Inc. (NYSE:AMRC) is a leading energy solutions provider dedicated to helping customers reduce costs, enhance resilience, and decarbonize to net zero in the global energy transition. We are a trusted, full-service partner to public sector and government entities, K-12 schools, higher education, utilities, and healthcare customers across the U.S., Canada, the U.K., and Europe.

At Ameresco, we show the way by developing, constructing and operating tailored smart energy efficiency solutions, distributed energy resources, and infrastructure upgrades that drive cost savings, resilience, decarbonization, and innovation. Our comprehensive portfolio is built to address the challenges of today and adapt the future, ensuring long-term sustainability and success for our customers.

Ameresco has an immediate opening for an Energy Engineer/Analyst to join our Performance Engineering team, supporting a diverse multi-site portfolio spanning commercial office, K-12, healthcare, and government facilities. This role blends deep building systems expertise, data analytics fluency, and customer engagement - operating at the intersection of engineering, FDD/MBCx, and M&V.

Ameresco's Asset Sustainability Group partners with organizations to transform building performance through intelligent analytics, data-driven energy management, and proactive maintenance optimization.

Responsibilities:
  • Evaluate potential energy savings and demand reduction opportunities, including operational changes and capital measures.
  • Analyze interval (15-min/hourly) utility and sub-meter data to characterize load profiles, identify demand charge drivers, and detect anomalies.
  • Execute MBCx workflows including baseline establishment, ongoing performance monitoring, and savings persistence verification; identify and present operational ECMs to facility stakeholders.
  • Support the development and implementation of campus metering systems (electricity, gas, steam, chilled water); develop specifications and single-line diagrams; oversee meter commissioning and EMIS/DAS integration.
  • Configure, deploy, and manage FDD rule sets within EMIS/analytics platforms; triage and prioritize fault alerts and develop fault impact estimates to support O&M decision-making.
  • Measure and verify performance of energy management programs over time.
  • Deliver clear technical reports and presentations translating complex analytics into actionable guidance for both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Lead project teams to implement MBCx/FDD, EMIS, and other projects.
  • Support proposal development, including collaboration with other groups across Ameresco.
  • Facilitate continuous process improvement including leveraging AI and ML to streamline workflows and automate tasks
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical/electrical engineering, Energy Systems, Computer Science, or related STEM field.
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in energy engineering, building performance analysis, or related discipline
  • Energy and data analysis experience, including:
  • Data driven modeling,
  • Interval meter data analysis,
  • Energy efficiency and demand reduction opportunities for HVAC, cooling and heating plants and distributed energy resources.
  • Travel required.

Additional Qualifications:

  • CEM, CMVP, or CCP certification;
  • Prior customer-facing or consulting experience.
  • Hands-on experience troubleshooting, retro-commissioning, or monitoring based commissioning of HVAC systems and central cooling and heating plants.
  • Working knowledge of advanced data analysis and visualization tools (e.g., Python , R)
  • Experience leveraging AI tools effectively and appropriately in an energy engineering context.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; high emotional intelligence; solutions-oriented mindset with ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Familiar with measurement and verification methods and protocols.
  • Working knowledge of BAS/BMS platforms

The position is remote with some travel required.

The anticipated base salary range for this role is $140,000 - $203,400 (presented in good faith). In addition to base pay, employees receive a comprehensive benefits package, such as health insurance, retirement plans, and paid time off, and may be eligible for performance incentives, bonuses, commissions, or equity, depending on the role.

Actual pay will depend on factors such as internal equity, skills, experience, education, certifications, and location. This range supports our commitment to pay transparency and compliance with applicable laws. Compensation may vary by work location, including remote arrangements.
