Job description

Project Manager – Commercial Construction (Retail & Grocery Focus)

Location: Southern California (Murrieta-area corporate office), with regional travel across CA, AZ, NV, and CO project sites

Company Overview A full-service general building and engineering construction firm delivering design-build, project management, tenant improvement, and ground-up construction services across seven Western states. The company operates as a "client first" organization, known for a hands-on, proactive project delivery approach tailored to each client's needs, with a core team boasting over 100 combined years of commercial construction experience.

Position Summary We are seeking an experienced Project Manager to lead commercial construction projects from preconstruction through closeout, with a strong emphasis on grocery, drug store, and specialty retail project types. The ideal candidate has direct experience managing occupied-space retrofits, ground-up retail pads, and tenant improvement work for national or regional retail and grocery brands.

Responsibilities

  • Manage all phases of assigned projects, including buyout, scheduling, budget tracking, and subcontractor coordination
  • Serve as primary client-facing point of contact, maintaining the company's reputation for proactive, detail-oriented project delivery
  • Coordinate with architects, engineers, and municipal agencies on permitting and inspections
  • Manage occupied-store or live-site construction sequencing where applicable, minimizing disruption to ongoing retail or grocery operations
  • Track project budgets, change orders, and pay applications
  • Ensure ADA compliance (interior and exterior) on applicable renovation and remodel work
  • Travel to project sites across the company's multi-state footprint as needed

Requirements

  • Minimum 5+ years of Project Manager experience in commercial construction
  • Required: direct project experience with grocery stores, drug stores, and/or specialty retail construction or tenant improvement
  • Experience with occupied/live-site retail construction strongly preferred
  • Familiarity with shopping center, mixed-use, or multi-tenant retail development a plus
  • Proficiency with Procore, Bluebeam, and MS Project or equivalent
  • Strong working knowledge of ADA compliance requirements
  • Valid driver's license and willingness to travel regionally
