Position Overview

The Director, Project Management serves as the internal portfolio lead for an assigned book of business. This individual is a strategic and execution-focused leader who partners closely with Account teams to build and maintain accurate work projections, prioritize initiatives, and ensure the portfolio remains operationally sound and financially healthy.

The Director, Project Management is ultimately responsible for the successful delivery of high-quality work that drives client satisfaction, meets business objectives, and balances client and agency economics. This role leads and mentors a multi-skilled team of Project Managers while driving operational excellence across the business.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with Account and Marketing teams to provide clear, proactive, and consistent communication to clients and effectively manage expectations
  • Review projects across assigned account(s) to assess resource and skill requirements and ensure appropriate staffing alignment
  • Partner with Resource Management and Functional Department Leads to manage fluctuating resource needs across the portfolio
  • Lead project status reviews and facilitate cross-functional post-mortem sessions to drive continuous improvement
  • Develop and oversee risk mitigation plans for large-scale and complex engagements
  • Serve as a collaborative business partner to capability leads to evolve workflows and improve operational efficiencies
  • Prioritize work in progress (WIP) with functional leads and Account teams to proactively address bottlenecks and maintain momentum
  • Manage portfolio budgets and communicate revenue shifts or financial risks to senior leadership
  • Act as the escalation point for vendor management concerns and production-related issues
  • Identify and remove barriers to project success while ensuring projects remain on track
  • Oversee workload distribution across the portfolio and facilitate resolution of complex production discussions with clients
  • Partner closely with Account teams during client discussions related to timelines, production challenges, and project tradeoffs
  • Collaborate with Resourcing to adjust client workload priorities across the portfolio as business needs evolve
  • Scope and estimate complex, integrated, multi-channel engagements and review all estimates prior to client delivery
  • Regularly review team workloads, billings, actuals, utilization, and staffing plans to identify opportunities for optimization and efficiency
  • Drive organization, information sharing, and alignment across functional departments and Account teams
  • Mentor, manage, and develop Project Management team members to strengthen overall performance, productivity, and operational excellence

Qualifications

  • 8+ years of project management experience, preferably within a healthcare advertising, pharmaceutical, medical communications, or agency environment
  • Proven experience leading large-scale, integrated, multi-channel programs and portfolios
  • Demonstrated success managing and developing high-performing project management teams
  • Strong understanding of agency operations, workflow management, resourcing, forecasting, and financial tracking
  • Expertise in scoping, estimating, budgeting, and portfolio management
  • Ability to navigate complex client relationships and lead conversations around timelines, production considerations, and business tradeoffs
  • Exceptional organizational, communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and stakeholders in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience collaborating cross-functionally with Account, Creative, Strategy, Production, and Functional Department Leads
  • Proficiency with project management and resource management tools and systems
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience preferred

Salary Range: $135,000 - $155,000

BGB Group is headquartered in New York City, and the salary range listed reflects the expected base compensation for this role in the New York City metropolitan area. This position may be performed remotely within the United States. For candidates located outside the New York City area, compensation will be adjusted to reflect the applicable market for the employee's primary work location. Final compensation will be determined based on geographic location, experience, qualifications, and other job-related factors.
