POSITION SUMMARYย 

The Teen &ย Youthย Familyย Directorย is responsible forย creating welcoming, inclusive, and supportive environments that foster belonging, leadership development, civic engagement, and positive youth and family experiences. Theย Teen & Youth Familyย Directorย sets upย the planning, implementation, and administration of YMCA youth, teen, and family programs, includingย Model Legislature Courtย programs, teen engagement initiatives, youth leadership opportunities, youth enrichment classes, and family-centered activities.ย 

Responsibilities include cultivating meaningful relationships with youth, families, volunteers, and community partners; monitoring program quality and participant engagement; providing program information and support; facilitating youth leadership and civic engagement experiences; assisting with volunteer recruitment and management; supporting participant recruitment and retention efforts; and performing administrative and operational duties as assigned. Theย Teen & Youth Familyย Directorย alsoย overseesย staff support, program documentation, event coordination, and the implementation of strategies that strengthen participation, belonging, and positive outcomes for youth and families.ย 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSย 

  1. Create a welcoming and supportive environment for all youth,ย teens, family,ย volunteers, and community participants. Takesย time to build relationships, foster belonging, and create positive experiences that encourage continued engagement with YMCA programs and services.ย 

  1. Plan, coordinate, and deliverย high-qualityย teen, youth, and family programs aligned with YMCA curriculum, program goals, and community needs, including Youth & Government, youth leadership initiatives, teen engagement programs, youth enrichment classes, and family centered activities.ย 

  1. Facilitate youth leadership, civic engagement, character development, and enrichment experiences that promote belonging, achievement, positive relationships, community involvement, and personal growth among youth and families.ย 

  1. Will Support administratively and attend our week of Sleep Away Camp.ย 

  1. Responsible for building small communities byย facilitatingย connections with and between program participants, families, volunteers, staff, schools, elected officials, and community partners.ย 

  1. Process participant registrations,ย maintainย program records, provide program information, andย assistย with participant recruitment, retention, and engagement efforts.ย 

  1. Manage recruitment, onboarding, communication, and processing of program volunteers using designated YMCA systems and procedures.ย 

  1. Coordinate and support delegation meetings, conferences, service projects, enrichment classes, family events, leadership activities,ย special events, and community engagement opportunities while ensuring a safe, inclusive, and positive experience for all participants.ย 

  1. Manageย administrative tasks including, but not limited to,ย Paycomย scheduling,ย auditingย and approving timesheets,ย maintainingย program documentation, preparing reports, and supporting daily program operations.ย 

  1. Manageย staff supervision, training recommendations,ย appropriate staffย coaching, andย makeย disciplinaryย decisionsย when necessary.ย 

  1. Respond promptly and courteously to all complaints, questions, compliments, and inquiries while followingย appropriate YMCAย procedures and providing excellent customer service.ย 

  1. Maintain close visual supervision of assigned program participants and ensure thatย appropriate participant-to-staffย ratios areย maintainedย in accordance withย YMCA policies and program requirements.ย 

  1. No program participant is left unsupervised while attending YMCAย programs,ย and staff are never alone with a program participant at any time.ย 

  1. Help program participants manage behavior using a positive approach, including proactive strategies, redirection, and constructive disciplineย utilizingย natural and logical consequences.ย 

  1. Actively support the YMCA's commitment to inclusion and compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) whereย appropriate.ย 

  1. Adhere to program standards including safety and cleanliness standards,ย maintainย program spaces and equipment, andย maintainย required program recordsย in accordance withย YMCA expectations.ย 

  1. Cultivate positive relationships andย maintainย effective communication with youth, families, volunteers, schools, elected officials, community organizations, and community partners. Engage families as volunteers and connect them to YMCA programs and services.ย 

  1. Attend andย participateย in Youth & Government delegation meetings, conferences, youth leadership events, family engagement activities, enrichment programs,ย special events, and other assigned YMCA functions.ย 

  1. Follow YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention, transportation, travel activities, and emergencies.ย Follow reporting procedures and proactively respond to situations to ensure a safe environment for all involved.ย 

  1. Attendย staff meetings andย trainingsย asย required.ย 

  1. Upholdย YMCA policies for safety, supervision, mandated reporting, and risk management.ย

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSย 

  • AGE:ย 21 years-old or olderย 

  • EDUCATION:ย High School Diploma or equivalentย ย 

  • RELATED EXPERIENCE:ย 2-3ย years of experience working with teens and families in a program settingย 

  • SPECIALIZED SKILLS:ย Strong character values; communication skillsย 

  • CERTIFICATIONS:ย Must hold or be willing to obtain withinย 60 days: Infant-Child-Adult CPR, First Aid, and AED certification.ย 

WORK ENVIRONMENT/MINIMUM PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTSย ย 

  • Ability to plan, lead, andย participateย in activities.ย 

  • Job isย performed in indoor and outdoor environments throughout the year.ย
