Video Journalist: Politics - The US Sun (Washington, D.C.)

The US Sun is America's fastest-growing digital news brand, delivering bold, accessible journalism to millions of readers every day. We're looking for a talented and driven Video Journalist specializing in politics and based in Washington, D.C., covering the stories that matter most to Americans - from Capitol Hill to the White House and beyond.

Why Join Us?

Part of News Corp, The U.S. Sun has quickly become a dominant force in digital journalism, delivering exclusive content on news, entertainment, lifestyle, and more. Since our US launch in 2020, we've exceeded traffic and revenue goals, establishing ourselves as the fastest-growing news site in the US.

What's the Role?

This is a role for someone who lives and breathes politics and wants to tell those stories through compelling, fast-paced video content. As part of our growing US video team, you'll produce sharp, short-form vertical videos, and longform series that bring our political reporting to life across our site and social platforms. You know how to make complex political stories feel urgent, accessible and unmissable.

Your portfolio should demonstrate a strong command of modern mobile and digital video storytelling, a sharp political news sense, and the ability to move quickly in a breaking news environment. You thrive under pressure, juggle multiple projects with ease, know how to get the most out of a story on camera.

This is an in-office position based in Washington, D.C., with the expectation of regular attendance four days per week, with some flexibility to work remotely.

Day to day you will:

  • Script, produce, edit and publish short-form vertical video content focused on US politics and Washington affairs

  • Monitor the political news cycle and identify stories with strong video potential across breaking news and enterprise reporting

  • Work closely with the US Sun's editors to develop visually compelling video formats

  • Interview politicians, analysts and experts both in the field and in studio settings

  • Collaborate with the wider video and editorial team to bring the best of our political journalism to new and existing audiences

  • Uphold the US Sun's commitment to fast, accurate and engaging journalism

What we're looking for from you:

  • Solid understanding of US politics and the Washington media landscape

  • Proven video editing skills, including proficiency in Adobe Premiere

  • Experience creating original video content incorporating footage, stills, graphics and audio

  • Strong news judgment and the ability to work quickly and accurately in a fast-moving environment

  • Experience covering politics, government or breaking news in a video or broadcast role

  • Design and motion graphics skills (After Effects, Photoshop, Illustrator) are a bonus

  • Comfortable producing and directing shoots, including on-camera interviews

  • Experience working in a collaborative, cross-functional newsroom environment

  • Flexible availability to respond to a dynamic and unpredictable news cycle

  • Ability to make fast editorial decisions under deadline pressure

  • Have an enviable contacts book

What's in It for You?

  • Salary: Competitive Salary based on experience with excellent benefits, including healthcare, dental, and 401K.

  • Career Growth: Take on a leading role in a dynamic newsroom with exciting career opportunities.

Shifts & Schedule:

  • Full-time, based in Washington D.C.

  • Regular office hours with occasional evening and weekend shifts
