Part-Time Adult High School Diploma (AHSD) Instructor: Civics, Government & Human Rights
Red Rocks Community College seeks dynamic, dedicated, and student-centered individuals to serve as Part-Time Adult High School Diploma (AHSD) Instructors. Reporting to the Adult High School Diploma Program Director, this role is responsible for delivering high-quality instruction in Civics, Government & Human Rights courses that support adult learners in completing Colorado Adult High School Diploma requirements.
The ideal candidate demonstrates a strong commitment to adult learner success and creating an engaging, supportive, and inclusive learning environment. Successful candidates recognize the strengths, experiences, and goals adult learners bring to the classroom and help students develop civic knowledge, critical thinking skills, information literacy, digital literacy, workforce readiness competencies, and confidence as they work toward earning their high school diploma.
This is a part-time instructional position supporting the Adult High School Diploma (AHSD) Program.
The Civics, Government & Human Rights course is offered in an accelerated 5-week format. New student cohorts begin approximately every five weeks throughout the year, creating opportunities for instructors to teach multiple cohorts annually based on program needs, enrollment, qualifications, and instructor availability.
Instruction is delivered through a hybrid model that combines face-to-face instruction, competency-based learning, and online coursework.
Instructors teach one in-person evening class meeting per week and provide asynchronous online support, grading, and communication outside of class through the college's learning management system.
Classes are offered at community partner locations, including:
• Mi Casa Resource Center
• Jeffco Action Center
Instructors may be assigned to either location based on program needs. Evening teaching availability is required.
Successful instructors will have the opportunity to teach multiple 5-week cohorts throughout the year based on program need, enrollment, qualifications, and instructor availability.
This position teaches a 3-credit AHSD Civics, Government & Human Rights course and focuses on helping adult learners build civic knowledge, workforce readiness skills, and confidence as they work toward earning their high school diploma.

Compensation is based on credit hour/contact hour ratios and ranges from $1,177.73 to $1,294.58 per credit hour.

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in another field with demonstrated experience teaching, training, mentoring, coaching, or facilitating learning in civics, government, social studies, workforce education, community education, or related areas.
• Experience teaching, training, mentoring, coaching, or facilitating learning with adult learners, secondary students, workforce learners, or community-based populations.
• Demonstrated commitment to supporting adult learners through flexible and student-centered instructional practices.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Master's degree in Political Science, Adult Education, Education, History, Public Policy, International Studies, or a related field.
• Experience teaching Adult High School Diploma (AHSD), Adult Basic Education (ABE), GED, High School Equivalency, Integrated Education and Training (IET), workforce education, or community-based education programs.
• Experience working with adult learners returning to education after an extended absence.
• Experience with competency-based education and assessment.
• Knowledge of Colorado civics standards, civic engagement, human rights education, genocide studies, and workforce readiness competencies.
• Experience using D2L Brightspace or other learning management systems.
• Adult Basic Education Authorization (ABEA) or willingness to obtain authorization if required by program funding requirements.
