ABOUT THE ROLE
We are seeking a Director of Investment Accounting to lead all aspects of investment accounting and reporting for a growing annuity insurance platform. This role will oversee Investment Accounting for a complex, multi-asset investment portfolio and serve as a key partner to finance leadership, investments, actuarial, risk, and external stakeholders. The ideal candidate brings deep insurance investment accounting expertise, strong leadership skills, and experience operating in a regulated environment. The role will report to the Controller.
WHAT YOU WILL DO:
  • Lead the Investment Accounting function for the company's annuity and insurance operations, covering GAAP and Statutory reporting.
  • Oversee accounting and reporting for a diversified investment portfolio including fixed income, structured products, private credit, alternatives, and derivatives.
  • Manage the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process related to investments, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and strong internal controls.
  • Own preparation and review of statutory investment schedules, investment footnotes, and related disclosures.
  • Ensure compliance with US GAAP, STAT, ASC 820 (fair value), NAIC guidance, and internal accounting policies.
  • Serve as the primary liaison for external auditors, regulators, rating agencies (e.g., AM Best), and internal audit on investment-related matters.
  • Partner closely with the investment team to support new investment structures, asset classes, and transactions from an accounting and reporting perspective.
  • Oversee custodian and investment system reconciliations, valuation processes, and data integrity across platforms.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of investment accounting professionals; support organizational growth and scalability.
  • Drive process improvements, automation initiatives, and system enhancements to improve efficiency and controls.
  • Provide subject-matter expertise and leadership during audits, transactions, and strategic initiatives.
  • Monitor changes in accounting regulations and investment industry trends to ensure the organization remains compliant and competitive
WHAT YOU WILL NEED:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA strongly preferred).
  • 10+ years of experience in investment accounting, with significant experience in life insurance and annuity operations.
  • Deep knowledge of STAT and GAAP investment accounting, including NAIC reporting requirements.
  • Experience with complex investment products and alternative assets.
  • Proven experience leading teams and managing senior-level stakeholders.
  • Strong understanding of investment accounting systems and custodial platforms, preferably Clearwater.
  • Prior experience working with Big 4 auditors, regulators, and rating agencies.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and leadership skills.
Preferred:
  • Experience supporting a high-growth or evolving annuity platform.
  • Background in both insurance company and asset management environments.
  • Exposure to reinsurance structures and investment-related risk management.
  • Experience implementing or upgrading investment accounting systems.

POSITION TYPE AND EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK:
This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., 40 hours weekly, or as otherwise arranged with the manager of the department.
