Job Summary
We are seeking a Director of Design for a direct hire opportunity in Jackson, WI with a growing leader in the commercial and specialty construction industry. This is a highly visible, hands-on leadership role for a design professional who can guide complex projects from concept through execution while leading a talented technical design team.
The Director of Design will serve as a key technical authority, ensuring architectural concepts, drawings, and design packages are accurate, buildable, and aligned with client expectations. This opportunity is ideal for someone who enjoys solving real-world constructability challenges, improving design workflows, and mentoring others in a collaborative, team-oriented environment.

Key Responsibilities
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of 3 to 5 technical designers while managing daily workloads, priorities, and project schedules.
- Review architectural drawings, blueprints, and design packages for accuracy, feasibility, constructability, and compliance with client specifications.
- Serve as the technical resource for determining whether complex design concepts can be successfully built in the field.
- Collaborate with General Contractors, preconstruction teams, Project Managers, and field operations to improve design deliverables and project execution.
- Lead internal design review meetings to improve drawing standards, workflows, cost efficiency, and overall project outcomes.
- Manage design team onboarding, training, performance coaching, and ongoing talent development.
Compensation and Benefits
- Salary range: $100,000 to $110,000 per year.
