Job description

Progressive Design, Inc. (PDI) is currently seeking a Director of Technology.

This is a full‑time on‑site position located in Midlothian, VA (Richmond, VA area).

The Director of Technology is responsible for establishing the company’s technical vision and leads all aspects of the company’s technological development. The position is accountable for the day‑to‑day operation of Engineering & Design Systems, Programming & Software Development, Web & Digital Communications, and Information Technology. The Director of Technology reports directly to the Executive Vice President. This position will have direct reports including information technology and virtual design and construction roles.

Job Responsibilities
  • Responsible for proposing enhancements to and managing technology, procedures and execution strategies to enable gains in company efficiency and facilitate further growth.
  • Handle Technical Project Management including requirement gathering, development, implementation and change management.
  • Develop and manage BIM engineering and design execution strategy/documentation (BIM Execution Plan).
  • Lead Engineering & Design Systems implementation of software, workflow enhancements, data storage strategy, personnel training, procedural documentation and day‑to‑day support.
  • Establish and maintain effective relationships with other departments (Process & Mechanical, Electrical & Instrumentation, Civil/Structural/Architectural, Construction Management).
  • Manage all software licensing contracts, ensuring maximized value and budget preservation.
  • Manage internal development of in‑house software, programming, database‑driven applications and related staff members.
  • Responsible for ensuring timely maintenance and enhancements to company website, sustaining frequent and effective social media communication as directed from Marketing Department.
  • Oversee the Information Technology projects and the group’s day‑to‑day functions; including hardware, networking, desktop operational systems, security strategy, disaster recovery strategy and desktop support.
  • Maintain department budget and schedule.
  • Perform technical research and enhance applicable industry knowledge.
  • Assist with design & engineering project bids, proposals, scopes of work, estimates, schedules and deliverable documentation as required per customer and corporate guidelines.
  • Provide guidance and assistance to subordinate staff members on day‑to‑day matters, such as task assignments, technical and procedural requirements, and affirmation and/or interpretation of corporate policies and guidelines.
Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or related field.
  • 15+ years in IT leadership, with 5+ years in systems analysis, project leadership, or engineering IT environments.
  • Strong technical knowledge of networking, systems, and engineering software; project management experience; cybersecurity awareness; budgeting and vendor negotiation skills.
  • Strategic thinking, communication, problem‑solving, and the ability to translate technical concepts for non‑technical audiences.
