Job Description

DIRECTOR OF MATH & SCIENCE

Responsibilities:

  • Provide system-wide leadership, supervision, direction, support and coordination of all aspects of the PreK-12 Mathematics & Science programs, curriculum, instruction, assessment, and professional development.
  • Works to establish a Mathematics & Science interdisciplinary instructional framework across grades PreK-12.
  • Works with school counselors, teachers, principals and other District administrators to ensure the academic success of students in programs within the Mathematics & Science initiatives.
  • Assists the Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction in formulating and articulating a philosophy of and objectives for the Mathematics & Science curriculum.
  • Guides development, implementation, and evaluation of the Mathematics & Science curriculum.
  • Keeps abreast of developments in the Mathematics & Science curriculum and makes recommendations.
  • Assists in the recruitment, screening, hiring, and training of Mathematics & Science instructional personnel.
  • Participates in the recruitment and retention of instructional teams.
  • Works with the Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction in the improvement of Mathematics & Science curriculum and instruction.
  • Communicates the approved Mathematics & Science curriculum to the professional staff.
  • Works with administrator and teacher committees in organizing and coordinating grade level and departmental Mathematics & Science meetings.
  • Provides curriculum leadership for professional development activities for Mathematics & Science instructional personnel.
  • Supervises the procurement and delivery of all Mathematics & Science instructional supplies.
  • Studies and evaluates, and, as appropriate, recommends adoption of new Mathematics & Science instructional materials, lab materials, methods, and programs.
  • Assumes a leadership role in developing Mathematics & Science curriculum for any course newly mandated by the legislature or the Board.
  • Participates in the formative and summative evaluation of the program by providing data and reports to board, superintendent, cabinet, and external evaluators.
  • Works with administrators, teachers, and higher education partners on matters of parental communication and student participation in these programs.
  • Participates in the work of state and national Mathematics & Science curriculum associations, networks, and study groups.
  • Facilitates the development, implementation, articulation and evaluation of K-12 enrichment and remediation programs.
  • Assists with any other duties assigned by the Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction.
