Job description

Job Summary
This position is responsible for planning, coordinating, managing and scheduling trucking for delivery of rock and sand, asphalt and/or ready mix concrete products. Individual will assure the correct products and quantities are delivered in a timely manner, maintain records of daily production orders, respond to customer questions and concerns by phone and in person to maintain good customer relations, weighs trucks to insure that the material is correct and the right weight, computes accounts receivable to insure accuracy of cash sales and receipts. Completes cash reconciliation, product sales and other reports daily. May be responsible for petty cash and banking deposits. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of the trucking industry, excellent communication and organizational skills, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Essential Functions
DISPATCHING:
  Becomes thoroughly familiar with day's business demands by reviewing schedule and individual customer orders at beginning of and continuously throughout shift.
  Directs Plant Operators, Loader Operators, Drivers, or Batch Plant Operators regarding which material to load on trucks.
  Directs Drivers regarding which customer job site to receive delivery.
  Writes or prints delivery tickets for all loads of material leaving the yard.
  Weighs Company and non company trucks on truck scale before and after being loaded with aggregate products.
  Reports immediately any delivery problems to service or sales representatives for quick resolution or mitigation.
ORDER TAKING AND SCHEDULING:
  Receives customer orders, mostly by telephone but also from drivers on Company radio, service or sales representatives over radio or in person, and occasionally by customers in person.
  Assists customers in identifying proper products needed for specific end uses.
  Tactfully balances cost effective delivery times and rates for Company with customer demands.
  Advises customers on Company order confirmation and delivery policies.
  Records customer orders on order form and journalizes in schedule book as received.
  Daily, towards end of shift, may make out schedule for drivers to punch in the next business day in correspondence with customer order requirements.
REPORTING AND OTHER:
  Completes reports daily on product sales, product allowances and adjustments, delivery problems, DTL's and other matters.
  Performs other duties as directed.

Education
High School or equivalent.
Experience
Two to four years experience that has included dispatching, customer relations, and construction/transportation; administrative or sales experience is required. 
Telephone, keyboard, computer and 10-key operator experience a plus.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Strong understanding of trucking regulations and procedures
Ability to maintain satisfactory customer relations and possess good math skills.
Ability to plan ahead to effect timely product delivery according to schedule; work at fast pace and prioritize work; and communicate effectively with customers as well as truckers.
Knowledge of paving, concrete and construction materials and trucks and transportation requirements and regulations.
Skilled in using computers to record information and create reports; scheduling and organizing large numbers of people and equipment efficiently and quickly; reading maps.
Must be able to work independently and make decisions while providing excellent customer service by phone and in person.
Ability to memorize and recall detailed information; communicate effectively with customers as well as truckers; work independently and make decisions; and handle multiple tasks concurrently; and work well under pressure.
Other Requirements
Will be required to wear protective gear when working in the field, including gear to protect against exposure to noise, dust and hazardous materials.
Ability to sit for long periods of time.
Position involves extended use of computer during the workday.
Occasionally, must be able to lift up to 15 pounds.

Hourly Range. The base hourly range for this role is between $32.00 - $36.00 per hour. This range is not inclusive of our discretionary bonus or equity package.  When determining a candidate's compensation, we consider a number of factors, including skillset, experience, job scope, and current market data.
