Senior Director, Software Engineering - AI

As a Capital One Senior Director of Software Engineering, you’ll spearhead our AI initiatives, developing and managing elite technical teams to architect next-generation intelligent solutions. You will champion everything from enterprise LLM orchestration and generative AI pipelines integrated into web/mobile frontends, to high-throughput, low-latency microservices for real-time model inference. You'll bring deep expertise in scaling production‑grade machine learning systems and traditional architectures.

Responsibilities
  • Lead, manage, and scale multiple high‑performing teams of AI and machine learning focused software engineers to drive our AI initiatives.
  • Mentor and guide the professional and technical development of engineers, cultivating deep expertise in MLOps, LLM architecture, and advanced data science practices.
  • Partner with product managers and data scientists to translate desired intelligent application capabilities, model validation strategies, and evaluation frameworks into production‑ready software.
  • Continuously mature AI engineering practices, championing robust frameworks for model lineage, continuous training (CT), and secure, ethical AI deployment.
  • Collaborate within and across Agile teams to architect, train, test, implement, and support scalable technical solutions across full‑stack AI and distributed cloud technologies.
  • Lead the technical craftsmanship, model reproducibility, low‑latency availability, and enterprise‑grade scalability of your intelligent solutions.
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • At least 9 years’ experience in software development
  • At least 7 years’ experience in AI development
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree in Computer Science or a Master’s Degree in Software Engineering
  • 13+ years’ of experience in software development
  • 8+ years’ of experience in AI best practices

Capital One will consider sponsoring a new qualified applicant for employment authorization for this position.

The minimum and maximum full‑time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Plano, TX: $286,200 - $326,700 for Sr. Dir, Software Engineering. Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate’s offer letter.

This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI).
