Additionally, they manage and mentor engineering teams, coordinate cross-departmental efforts, and often collaborate with stakeholders to deliver high-quality software solutions. Their role is both strategic and hands-on, requiring deep expertise in Java and leadership skills.

Job description

Note: Fidelity will not provide immigration sponsorship for this position.
The Role
We're hiring a strategic and technically strong engineering leader to lead Portfolio Construction technology platforms within Fidelity Asset Management Solutions (FAMS). This role includes direct people management responsibility for approximately 9 software engineers while providing technical and execution leadership across multiple engineering delivery teams.
This role requires a leader with proven experience building and developing high-performing engineering teams combined with deep modern software engineering expertise. Just as importantly, the ideal candidate must have hands-on experience using AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot, Claude, and similar technologies in real engineering environments.
This is a core requirement for the role - the successful candidate will be expected to lead adoption of AI-enabled engineering practices, coach engineers on modern AI development workflows, and accelerate developer productivity across the organization.
You will partner closely with product, architecture, and investment technology leaders to deliver scalable, resilient, and high-impact solutions supporting multi-asset investing and portfolio construction capabilities.
This is an ideal opportunity for a leader who is passionate about engineering excellence, talent development, AI-driven software engineering transformation, and building modern investment technology platforms.
The Expertise and Skills You Bring
  • Proven experience leading and developing high-performing engineering teams, including direct management of approximately 8-10 software engineers.

  • Deep technical expertise across modern engineering stacks, cloud-native platforms, and enterprise-scale software delivery.

  • Hands-on experience using and driving adoption of AI-assisted engineering tools such as GitHub Copilot, Claude, and similar technologies.

  • Ability to influence technical direction, partner effectively with product leadership, and translate strategy into scalable business solutions.

  • Strong communication, problem-solving, and coaching skills with a passion for engineering excellence, innovation, and continuous improvement.

The Value You Deliver
  • Lead, mentor, and grow a high-performing team of software engineers while fostering a strong culture of accountability and innovation.

  • Drive delivery of strategic technology initiatives supporting portfolio construction and multi-asset investment capabilities.

  • Accelerate engineering productivity and quality through adoption of AI-enabled software development practices and tools.

  • Partner closely with product and technology leaders to align engineering execution with business priorities and client outcomes.

  • Deliver scalable, resilient, and high-quality technology solutions using modern engineering practices and cloud-native architectures.

The Team
Within Fidelity Asset Management Solutions (FAMS), our technology organization builds and supports the platforms that power portfolio construction, asset allocation, analytics, and risk management across a broad range of multi-asset investment solutions.
Our engineers develop scalable, cloud-native applications and services supporting investment professionals across the full investment lifecycle. Teams leverage modern technologies including Java, Angular, Kafka, Oracle, and cloud-native architectures to deliver high-impact investment technology solutions.
FAMS is also making a significant strategic investment in AI-enabled engineering practices and developer productivity transformation. We are actively adopting tools such as GitHub Copilot, Claude, and other emerging AI technologies to modernize software development, improve quality, and accelerate delivery across engineering teams.
Fidelity's Onsite Working Model
Fidelity is transitioning to a full-time onsite working model through a phased rollout across regions and roles. Currently, some roles and locations require 100% onsite presence, while others require less. Onsite expectations are likely to evolve as the rollout continues. This transition does not apply to fully remote roles.
The base salary range for this position is $126,000-255,000 USD per year.
Placement in the range will vary based on job responsibilities and scope, geographic location, candidate's relevant experience, and other factors.
Base salary is only part of the total compensation package. Depending on the position and eligibility requirements, the offer package may also include bonus or other variable compensation.
We offer a wide range of benefits to meet your evolving needs and help you live your best life at work and at home. These benefits include comprehensive health care coverage and emotional well-being support, market-leading retirement, generous paid time off and parental leave, charitable giving employee match program, and educational assistance including student loan repayment, tuition reimbursement, and learning resources to develop your career. Note, the application window closes when the position is filled or unposted.
Please be advised that Fidelity's business is governed by the provisions of the Securities Exchange Act of 1934, the Investment Advisers Act of 1940, the Investment Company Act of 1940, ERISA, numerous state laws governing securities, investment and retirement-related financial activities and the rules and regulations of numerous self-regulatory organizations, including FINRA, among others.
