Job description

The Director of Dietary Services, with the guidance of the Registered Dietitian, plans, organizes, and directs the operations of the dietary department. This associate ensures that the dietary department operates in accordance with all applicable federal and state guidelines to provide quality, appetizing meals which meet the nutritional requirements of each resident and are prepared and served in a safe, sanitary, and efficient manner.Essential Functions:Ensures that food, supplies, and equipment are purchased from approved vendors, received in good condition, and stored at proper temperatures.Maintains dietary expenses within budgeted limits. Keeps on-going records of department expenditures and provides financial records and cost reports to the Administrator and Director of Nutrition Services as required.Recruits and hires qualified staff and ensure that orientation and training is provided to allow the associate to competently assume their job responsibilities.Ensures that the department is adequately staffed according to the approved staffing pattern. Completes and updates dietary staff work schedule.Provides direct supervision of staff and evaluates job performance in a timely manner.Assures that the meals, diet, and supplements provided to each resident is in accordance with physicianโ€™s orders and established nutrition care plans as well as resident preferences and requests.Participates in the nutrition care of the resident by completing quarterly reviewsEstablishes and maintains productive lines of communication between dietary services and other departments.Participates in and/or provides in-service education sessions and staff meetings monthly.Operates and directs the dietary department according to established policies and procedures, and local, state, and federal regulations.Actively participates in the facilityโ€™s quality improvement and infection control programs.Works in conjunction with the Director of Nutrition Services to provide an enhanced dining program which allows resident choices.Attends and participates in interdisciplinary meetings, including department head, morning stand-up, care plan, safety, and At-Risk meetings as directed.May be a Registered Dietitian or have a Baccalaureate Degree with major studies in food and nutrition from an accredited college or university OR has completed a Dietary Managers Association (DMA) approved program in Dietary Management OR is certified by the Certifying Board of Dietary Managers of the Dietary Managers Association.Has knowledge of infection control, safety, and food handling standards.Good management, interpersonal, supervisory, and communications skills.Must be flexible, detail-orientated, ability to multi-task, meet deadlines and be able to make effective decisions and work as part of a service excellence team #J-18808-Ljbffr
