Job description

TITLE: Cook

REPORTS TO: Dietary Manager

Non-Exempt

Hours: 7:00 AM - 3:00 PM

PURPOSE OF POSITION:

The primary purpose of the position is to prepare the facility's food in accordance with current federal, state, and local standards, guidelines and regulations governing our facility and as may be directed by the Dietary Manager.

ROLE and RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Prepare meals in accordance with standardized menu (recipes, portions, and special diets).
  2. Prepare and serve meals that are palatable and appetizing in appearance.
  3. Take and record temperature of all foods prepared.
  4. Discard outdated items stored in walk-in cooler.
  5. Follow all safety, infection control, and universal precaution policies and procedures when preparing food, cleaning equipment, and performing other daily tasks.
  6. Perform daily cleaning in accordance with the cleaning schedule.
  7. Report all hazardous conditions/equipment to the Dietary Manager immediately.

KEY CHARACTERISTICS:

  • Highly focused and strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to work with frequent interruptions.
  • Ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, visitors, and the public.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. High School diploma or GED.
  2. Previous cooking experience in a senior living environment preferred.
  3. Food Handling License, Serve Safe Certification a plus.
