QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Connecticut Special Education certification
  2. Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree required; ย 
  3. Current Active 092-Intermediate Administration or Supervisionย certificate
  4. Understanding of differentiated instruction
  5. Ability to communicate effectively with staff, parents, administrators and other professionals
  6. Ability to articulate goals of district regarding LRE and inclusion
  7. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board of Education may find appropriate and acceptable

REPORTS TO:ย Chief of Student Servicesย 

JOB GOAL:To assist in all facets of student services work that support the inclusion of students in their least restrictive environment. Additionally, this individual will support PPS Director's department and district improvement initiatives. ย ย 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Collaborates with PPS director daily to prioritize department, school, or district-wide projects/cases needing support.
  2. Support teachers, support staff, students, or families at the directive of SSS Chief related to service delivery in the least restrictive environment.
  3. Assist in the data management/state and district data management platforms.
  4. Organize schedules of supervisors, support staff, and other department personnel.
  5. Attend meetings on behalf of PPS director as needed and take detailed notes at meeting.
  6. Review high profile district cases to assists and guide general and special education teachers in observing, describing, and referring students to various supports.
  7. Participate, on behalf of the director, in student support sessions (SSS) including take attendance and notes.
  8. Assist IEP teams in the development of appropriate IEP's to match the identified student's needs for specifically designed instruction.
  9. Attend Planning and Placement Team meetings as needed to assist in inclusive planning.
  10. Understanding of curricular goals and objectives and means of modifying and adapting these goals for student with disabilities.
  11. Reviews case histories of various students to advise academic, social/emotional support
  12. Collaborates and consults with classroom teachers and other school staff members to implement district initiatives.
  13. Oversee the scheduling of magnet PPTs by the SSS administrative assistants.
  14. Oversee the filing of special education paperwork by the SSS administrative assistants
  15. Design and implement parent activities to provide information regarding responsible inclusion practices.
  16. Assist in oversight of case management of out of district (OOD) and magnet speech students.
  17. Provides professional development, consultation, co-teaching, and modeling techniques for teachers and staff as needed/requested by PPS Director.
  18. Offer office hours to assist new teachers in areas such as CT-SEDs support.
  19. Assumes such other functions as may be determined/assigned by the Chief.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Ten-month year.ย Salary and work year to be established by the Board.

EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel.
