Job description

Description:

The Kids Ministry Director will oversee and lead all aspects of Kids Ministry (birth through 5th grade), including Preschool, Elementary (K-3rd), and Preteen (4th-5th), to fulfill the mission of NPHX Church: Reach and equip people with the gospel of Jesus Christ throughout the Valley and around the world. 

Requirements: QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE POSITION (SKILLS, EXPERIENCE, & EDUCATION)
  • Demonstrated ability (minimum 2+ years) of leading a children’s ministry or program that effectively helped children grow in their faith with Jesus.
  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
  • Ability to lead and manage teams, including staff and volunteers.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Orange Family Ministry curriculum knowledge preferred.
  • Highly relational—able to connect with young children, parents, and volunteers in various settings.
  • Ability to equip parents and volunteers to disciple kids at home and in the church.
  • Must possess strong communication and computer skills, be proficient in Microsoft Office, and able to learn church database systems and communication platforms.
  • Ability to prioritize workflow, multitask, and handle confidential information responsibly.
  • Self-motivated with a commitment to excellence in ministry.
  • Ability to effectively manage conflict or sensitive situations with grace and wisdom.
  • Must be/become a member of NPHX Church.
  • Committed Christian living a life of obedience, with beliefs consistent with NPHX Church’s statement of faith.
SPECIFIC JOB RESPONSIBILITIES (Evaluation criteria based on these responsibilities listed on review forms)  

Kids Ministry Oversight (~55%) 

  • Provide visionary direction and hands-on leadership for all Kids Ministry environments (Preschool, Elementary, and Preteen).
  • Implement the mission of NPHX within all Birth–5th Grade programming.
  • Oversee all weekend experiences, ensuring excellence in large group, small group, worship, and teaching environments.
  • Create and maintain a Christ-centered, fun, and secure space where kids experience Jesus and build meaningful relationships.
  • Ensure curriculum, programming, and ministry philosophy are aligned across all age groups.
  • Develop and execute an annual calendar of ministry events (e.g., VBS, family nights, outreach events).
  • Follow up with new families and implement strategies to reconnect with families who have disengaged.
  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure smooth transitions across ministries and holistic family discipleship.

Volunteer Leadership & Development (~20%)

  • Recruit, train, and develop volunteers across all age-specific environments.
  • Identify and empower key leaders to oversee specific teams or age groups.
  • Ensure consistent onboarding, coaching, and support for all volunteers.
  • Build a culture where volunteers are seen, supported, and celebrated.
  • Provide ongoing training, appreciation, and leadership development opportunities.

Supervision & Team Development (~10%)

  • Lead and develop the Kids Ministry team, including Preschool and Elementary Associates, interns, residents, and all future hires.
  • Conduct regular coaching and performance check-ins.
  • Foster a team culture of collaboration, ownership, and spiritual growth.

Family Engagement & Discipleship (~5%)

  • Equip and partner with parents to lead their children spiritually at home.
  • Provide regular resources, communication, and events that build trust and connection with families.
  • Ensure that new families are welcomed and connected into the life of the church.

Midweek Childcare & Special Events (~5%)

  • Oversee midweek childcare programming and staffing (e.g., MomCo, classes, Bible studies).
  • Ensure midweek and event childcare is engaging, age-appropriate, and safe.
  • Provide support for church-wide and family ministry events as needed.

Church & Ministry Involvement (~5%)

  • Be an active part of Sunday worship services and the NPHX Church community.
  • Support church-wide events, trainings, and outreach initiatives.
  • Work collaboratively with other NPHX Church staff and ministries to ensure unity and alignment.
  • Represent the heart and mission of NPHX Church in every environment, both inside and outside the church.
