Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Senior Engineer to join our multidisciplinary team. This role is designed for a proven leader in geotechnical consulting who excels at managing complex projects, providing advanced technical expertise, and mentoring junior staff.

As a Senior Engineer, you will play a crucial role in advancing excellence within our Construction Materials Testing (CMT) supporting Geotechnical Group. Your responsibilities would include serving our long-term clients, expanding our current geotechnical capabilities, fostering a collaborative and innovative environment, and cultivating enduring professional relationships. This role offers a favorable work-life balance while providing opportunities to contribute to challenging and distinctive engineering projects. Our Geotechnical Group focuses on serving projects for our local municipal, industrial, residential, and commercial clients. These projects span a multitude of geotechnical support roles, from geotechnical exploration to geotechnical support during construction.

Minimum Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering with a geotechnical focus. Masters is preferred.

  • 6-8 years of relevant professional experience.

  • Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in South Carolina or North Carolina, with the ability to become licensed in additional Southeastern states within six months.

  • Knowledge of geotechnical design and construction requirements.

  • Knowledge of geosynthetics

  • Ability to travel up to 10% of the time for site meetings, marketing, technical seminars, regulatory seminars, engineering workshops, and client development within the Southeastern US.

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong knowledge of regulations (state and federal), subsurface geology, soil and rock mechanics, hydrogeology, and geotechnical site assessment.

  • Experience with field investigation techniques (drilling, sampling, logging).

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Proven ability to lead projects and mentor staff.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced consulting environment.

  • Strong technical expertise and excellent project management skills.

  • Ability to interpret and utilize environmental data to reach project objectives.

  • Ability to stay current with industry standards, regulations, and best practices.

  • Strong knowledge of soils laboratory testing procedures and practices

Key Responsibilities

Technical Leadership & Core Discipline Leadership

  • Provide expert interpretation of analytical data in support of a wide variety of projects.

  • Lead geotechnical investigations including site reconnaissance, drilling oversight, sampling, and field data collection. Assign soils laboratory testing.

  • Interpret and utilize site data to make decisions to reach project objectives.

  • Prepare detailed technical reports, maps, and presentations for clients, regulators, and internal teams.

  • Ensure technical accuracy, consistency, and quality in deliverables.

  • Act as a technical lead for complex environmental investigations and remediation projects.

  • Apply advanced knowledge of environmental engineering principles, environmental regulations, and remediation technologies.

Project Oversight, Operational & Strategic Leadership

  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring quality, budget, and schedule compliance.

  • Direct field operations including subcontractor oversight, drilling, sampling, and logging activities.

  • Monitor and manage project budgets, schedules, and deliverable deadlines.

  • Stay current with evolving industry regulations, best practices, and technologies.

  • Contribute to operational improvements and technical initiatives within the firm.

  • Review delegated project deliverables performed by members of the team

Leadership, Management, and People Development

  • Provide technical direction to multidisciplinary project teams.

  • Oversee project staffing, resource allocation, and field operations planning.

  • Mentor and train junior technical staff, fostering professional growth and technical development.

Client & Business Development Support

  • Maintain and strengthen client relationships through project delivery and professional interactions.

  • Support business development efforts, including proposal writing and client presentations.

Regulatory & Quality Compliance

  • Ensure projects comply with applicable federal, state, and local environmental regulations.

  • Maintain safety standards including HAZWOPER requirements.
