Job description

Kinsley Energy Systems is seeking a Director of Engineering with deep, hands-on expertise in microgrids, battery energy storage systems (BESS), and distributed energy solutions. This leadership role will drive the technical vision for microgrid projects while guiding engineering teams through all phases of development-from concept and design through commissioning and long-term operations.
The Director of Engineering will collaborate closely with internal teams, clients, and industry partners to deliver reliable, high-performance energy solutions. This role is ideal for a leader who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is passionate about innovation in the rapidly evolving distributed energy landscape.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead internal and external engineering teams to deliver microgrid projects that meet high standards for safety, reliability, and performance.
  • Serve as the chief technical authority on microgrid and onsite energy systems, overseeing system design, integration, commissioning, and optimization.
  • Direct and coordinate feasibility studies, site assessments, technical proposals, and project plans for microgrid development.
  • Partner with clients to assess operational needs, develop customized microgrid solutions, and support implementation and ongoing system performance.
  • Implement engineering best practices for microgrid controls, battery storage integration, distributed generation, and system reliability.
  • Drive technical innovation to enhance scalability, interoperability, and resilience of microgrid systems across diverse environments.
  • Ensure all projects meet industry standards, regulatory requirements, and permitting guidelines.
  • Manage project budgets, schedules, and resources to ensure projects are delivered on time and within scope.
  • Mentor and develop engineering talent while fostering a culture of collaboration, continuous improvement, and technical excellence.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers, partners, and industry stakeholders to keep KES at the forefront of microgrid technology.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's or advanced degree in Electrical Engineering, Energy Systems, or a related discipline.
  • Extensive experience in microgrid design, construction, commissioning, and operation, including hands-on project delivery and operational support.
  • Strong understanding of microgrid architecture, system controls, battery storage systems (BESS), distributed generation, and grid integration.
  • Proven success leading complex distributed energy projects, particularly microgrid deployments across multiple sites.
  • Expertise in regulatory compliance, permitting processes, and engineering standards related to microgrid and BESS projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage technical teams, project budgets, and schedules for large-scale engineering initiatives.
  • Exceptional communication and client engagement skills with the ability to translate technical concepts into practical, client-focused solutions.
  • Experience with project management tools and field operations technology used to support microgrid deployment, monitoring, and performance optimization.

All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, or national origin.
