Job description

Children's Med/Surg Nurse Manager

Work Arrangement: On-Site Requisition Number: 273881 Regular or Temporary: Regular Location: Durham, NC, US, 27710 Personnel Area: DUKE HOSPITAL

What you can expect Location: 2301 Erwin Rd Durham, NC 27705 The Pediatric Medical/Surgical Unit (Duke Central Tower 1A/2A) currently consists of two 17-bed units that provide care for a diverse pediatric population requiring both acute care and stepdown/intermediate-level services. Patients include those with general pediatric, medical, and surgical needs, as well as children requiring specialized care for solid organ transplants and chronic tracheostomy or ventilator dependence. The unit offers a dynamic clinical environment with varying patient acuity levels and frequent patient turnover. As part of future Duke Children's transitions, the majority of these patients will be consolidated on DCT 1A (17 beds), creating an increased concentration of stepdown care patients.

Schedule: Full Time: Monday – Friday, with off shift visibility and on call 24/7 including weekends to support the needs to the unit. How you will make an impact Serve as the clinical and operational leader for the Pediatric Medical/Surgical Unit, partnering with medical directors, Duke Children's leadership, and interdisciplinary team members to ensure the delivery of safe, high-quality, patient-centered care. Integrate nursing and unit priorities into daily operations while driving quality improvement initiatives and fostering collaboration across disciplines to achieve optimal patient and family outcomes. Support and promote a professional practice model that encourages staff participation, collaboration, and the use of current clinical and administrative best practices. Advocate for patients, families, and staff while fostering communication, engagement, accountability, and positive organizational change. Manage, supervise, and coordinate patient care operations on a 24-hour basis while ensuring compliance with clinical standards, regulatory requirements, policies, and procedures. Lead staff development, coaching, performance management, professional growth, and mentorship initiatives that support exceptional patient outcomes. Oversee quality improvement, patient safety, infection prevention, operational efficiency, and resource management activities. Direct workforce planning, budgeting, staffing, equipment and supply oversight, and interdisciplinary collaboration to support effective unit operations.

What you will need Bachelor's degree in Nursing is required. Master's degree in Nursing strongly preferred. Three years of nursing experience is required. Must have current or compact RN licensure in the state of North Carolina. BCLS certification required.
