Job description

The Pastor for Counseling and Discipleship serves as a key ministry leader, offering spiritual guidance and pastoral care through providing and overseeing Biblical counseling services and intentional discipleship development through various ministries. This role combines the heart of a pastor with skill in biblical counseling and discipleship formation, working to foster spiritual growth and health within the congregation.

Primary Responsibilities Counseling Ministry Leadership
  • Oversee all aspects of the church’s Biblical counseling ministry, ensuring biblical foundations and professional standards
  • Provide individual, marriage, and family counseling services using biblical principles and best practices
  • Develop policies and procedures for counseling services, including intake processes and counseling protocols
  • Maintain confidentiality and appropriate boundaries in all counseling relationships
Biblical Counseling Training Center
  • Develop, implement, and oversee a comprehensive Biblical Counseling Training Center within the church
  • Create curriculum and training materials that integrate Scripture with sound counseling principles
  • Recruit, train, and supervise lay counselors and volunteer counseling staff
  • Establish certification processes and continuing education requirements for counseling team members
  • Coordinate workshops, seminars, and ongoing training opportunities for both staff and congregation
  • Design and implement a comprehensive discipleship pathway that serves believers at all spiritual maturity levels
  • Develop small group curricula and resources that promote spiritual growth and biblical literacy
  • Encourage discipleship relationships that connect mature believers with those seeking spiritual growth
  • Coordinate with other pastoral staff to ensure discipleship initiatives align with overall church vision
LifeGroup Ministry (our sermon-based small groups)
  • Cast vision for small group community and spiritual formation
  • Oversee the recruitment and training and ongoing coaching of LifeGroup leaders and hosts
  • Monitor group health and provide ongoing support to group leaders
  • Facilitate leader meetings and training sessions
  • Create weekly sermon-based LifeGroup discussion questions
Equipping Hour Ministry
  • Oversee Adult Equipping Hour Scope of Sequence and the selection of all Equipping Hour curriculum, topics, etc.
  • Select, train, and oversee Adult Equipping Hour teaching staff
Leadership and Administration
  • Recruit, train, and manage volunteers serving in counseling and discipleship ministries
  • Develop ministry budgets and manage resources effectively
  • Maintain accurate records and track ministry effectiveness through appropriate metrics
