Job description

**This position is a direct hire for one of our clients. This is a remote position. Eligible candidates must currently reside in the US and authorized to work in the US without visa sponsorship.**
Our client is looking for a Database Engineer to strengthen database engineering capabilities within their architecture team. In this role, you'll partner closely with software engineers and application teams to review SQL and stored procedure changes, assess performance impacts, refine data modeling and access patterns, and speed up triage of database-related production issues.
This is a chance to join a collaborative, engineering-driven environment where your database expertise will directly shape performance, reliability, governance, and incident response across multiple application teams - while helping mature database engineering practices for the long term.
You'll thrive in this role if you enjoy working at the intersection of application development and database engineering, can assess risk and communicate technical tradeoffs clearly, and are motivated to build practical, scalable database solutions in close partnership with engineering teams.
Primary Duties
  • Partner with software engineers and application teams to review SQL and stored procedure changes.
  • Assess the potential impact of database changes, including performance, reliability, and downstream application effects.
  • Support database-related incident triage, monitoring alerts, and production issue remediation.
  • Help improve data models, data access patterns, and database governance practices.
  • Collaborate with architecture and engineering teams to strengthen database engineering practices across multiple application teams.
  • Contribute to future database initiatives, which may include monitoring improvements, disaster recovery planning, SQL upgrades, database migrations, and SQL release pipeline work.
  • Provide practical guidance to teams working with shared data and application-layer database needs.
Qualifications
  • Strong SQL skills, including the ability to evaluate SQL syntax, stored procedures, and application-driven database changes.
  • Experience with SQL Server performance considerations, data modeling, data access patterns, and database governance.
  • Familiarity with AWS infrastructure, especially EC2 and RDS.
  • Ability to collaborate closely with software engineers and application teams.
  • Experience supporting production issue triage or troubleshooting database-related incidents.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to explain database impacts, risks, and recommendations clearly.
  • Pragmatic problem-solving approach with strong ownership and team collaboration.
Nice to Have Skills
  • Experience in a SaaS environment.
  • Experience with monitoring tools such as Datadog or similar platforms.
  • DBA-related experience, including disaster recovery, database migrations, SQL upgrades, or SQL release pipelines.
  • Experience translating database knowledge from Microsoft environments into AWS-based environments.
  • Interest in AI, especially demonstrated through real projects, implementations, or practical experimentation.
