Job Title: Senior SQL Database Administrator – Great Plains General Ledger Administration
Location: Atlanta, GA
Department: IT / Financial Systems
Reports To: Director of IT or CIO
Employment Type: Contract 6 Months


Position Summary:

We are seeking an experienced Senior SQL Database Administrator (DBA) with specialized expertise in Microsoft Dynamics GP (Great Plains) and deep functional knowledge of the General Ledger (GL) module. This role will serve as a key technical leader, responsible for maintaining a high-performing and secure SQL Server environment, optimizing ERP data workflows, and providing strategic support for financial operations and reporting.

This position is ideal for a seasoned professional who thrives at the intersection of database engineering and financial systems administration, and is passionate about enabling data-driven decision-making across the enterprise.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and optimize all aspects of Microsoft SQL Server infrastructure supporting Microsoft Dynamics GP.
  • Serve as the subject matter expert for General Ledger administration within Great Plains, including account structures, journal entries, posting routines, and year-end processes.
  • Design, implement, and fine-tune SQL objects (stored procedures, views, functions, indexes) to improve system performance and financial data accuracy.
  • Lead complex troubleshooting efforts for both technical (database) and functional (GL) issues, collaborating with Finance and IT stakeholders.
  • Support monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes by ensuring ERP data availability and integrity.
  • Monitor database performance and proactively address capacity, security, and availability issues.
  • Manage data integrations between Dynamics GP and other financial or reporting systems.
  • Develop and maintain robust reporting solutions (using SSRS, Management Reporter, or Power BI) to support financial analysis and compliance requirements.
  • Maintain documentation for database architecture, data flows, and system configurations.
  • Provide leadership and mentorship to junior DBAs and analysts, fostering a high-performance data environment.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Accounting, or a related field.
  • 7+ years of experience in SQL Server database administration in enterprise environments.
  • 5+ years of direct experience with Microsoft Dynamics GP, with an emphasis on General Ledger system administration.
  • Advanced expertise in T-SQL, query optimization, and performance tuning.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of accounting principles and financial data workflows.
  • Strong experience with backup/recovery strategies, high availability configurations, and database security practices.
  • Proven ability to collaborate cross-functionally with Finance, IT, and executive stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Dynamics GP integration tools (e.g., eOne SmartConnect, Integration Manager).
  • Familiarity with additional GP modules such as Payables, Receivables, and Fixed Assets.
  • Power BI or other business intelligence tools for financial reporting.
  • Experience working in a SOX-compliant or audited environment.
