Job Title: Registered Nurse – Telemetry/Medical-Surgical (Med Surg/Tele)
Location: Chicago, Illinois, USA
Setting: Acute Care Hospital – Med Surg/Telemetry
Job Type: Full-time
Schedule: 12‑hour shifts (7:00 a.m.–7:30 p.m. or 7:00 p.m.–7:30 a.m.), variable hours as needed
Compensation: USD 65,000 – 93,000 (base salary)​


Job Summary

The Telemetry/Medical-Surgical Registered Nurse (RN) provides direct, patient‑centered nursing care to adults with cardiac and complex medical conditions on a Med Surg/Telemetry unit. The RN is responsible for continuous monitoring, assessment, and treatment, applying critical thinking and problem‑solving skills while collaborating with the interdisciplinary team to implement and evaluate individualized care plans.


Key Responsibilities
  • Provide safe, effective, and compassionate nursing care for a diverse adult population using the nursing process (assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation).

  • Monitor, assess, and document patients’ cardiac and medical status, including recognizing physiologic and psychosocial changes and promptly reporting significant changes to the physician.

  • Perform interventions according to identified priorities, plan of care, infection control standards, and hospital policies.​

  • Educate patients and families on diagnoses, medications, lifestyle changes, and discharge instructions to promote understanding and independence.

  • Chart observations, assessments, interventions, and outcomes accurately in the electronic health record (EHR).

  • Guide and direct unlicensed assistive personnel in delivering interdisciplinary patient care; delegate tasks appropriately and provide follow‑up.

  • Assure compliance with professional, regulatory, governmental, and organizational standards, including core measures and infection control practices.

  • Collect blood specimens via venipuncture or micro techniques for laboratory analysis as needed and permitted by policy.​

  • Participate in Quality Assurance/Process Improvement initiatives to improve patient safety and clinical outcomes.

  • Maintain confidentiality and uphold the organization’s mission, values, and patient‑centered philosophy in all interactions.


Qualifications
  • Associate degree from a professional nursing program required.

  • BSN or current enrollment in a BSN program at an accredited school of nursing preferred.​

  • Current, active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Illinois required.​

  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers required.​

  • Minimum 1 year of clinical nursing experience in a relevant setting required.​

  • Ability to work various hours as needed, including days, nights, weekends, and holidays.​
