Job description

Responsibilities
The Patient Safety Director will serve as the patient safety officer in the area(s) of assigned responsibility which includes developing collaborative relationships to lead and provide direction to the Reaching for Zero patient safety strategy. The Patient Safety Director will develop a comprehensive patient safety plan which will include continuous improvement efforts and ongoing risk assessment; build a culture of safety, including support for the implementation of systems to decrease patient harm and participate in formal process improvement activities; support and encourage safety event reporting and help leaders use safety event data for organizational learning; conduct safety event classification and cause analysis on safety events in collaboration with risk management and facility leadership; collaborate with the accreditation team to provide organizational response to regulatory standards related to patient safety; and develop patient safety education programs.
Key Accountabilities:
  • Responsible for identifying safety events, performing safety event classification and cause analysis according to Norton Healthcare policy and procedures and in collaboration with risk management and leadership.
  • Provide organizational response to regulatory standards related to patient safety and conduct mandatory state reporting in collaboration with risk management and the accreditation team.
  • Serve as the patient safety officer at the assigned facilities or entities; will provide direction to the Reaching for Zero strategic plan and develop a comprehensive facility/entity patient safety plan that includes continuous evaluation and ongoing risk assessment to eliminate preventable health care harm. The program will include the promotion of standard leader reliability skills and employee universal reliability skills.
  • Promote a culture of safety and the use of Just Culture principles through routine communication, training and education of evidence-based safety science to employees, leaders and providers.

Qualifications
Required:
  • Five years of experience in health care and one year management experience in healthcare
  • Bachelor Degree

Desired:
  • Master Degree
  • Certified Professional in Patient Safety - CPPS
