Designer / Drafter

Pay: $75,000–$85,000
Job Type: Full-Time
Location: Fredericksburg, VA

Position Overview

M Force Partners is seeking an experienced Designer / Drafter to support the design and development of robotic systems, assemblies, and components using SolidWorks CAD software. This Designer / Drafter role will work closely with engineering and manufacturing teams to create, modify, and maintain detailed CAD models, engineering drawings, and bills of materials for both new and existing robotic products.

The ideal Designer / Drafter will have strong experience with SolidWorks, GD&T, manufacturing processes, and engineering drawing standards while supporting prototype development and cross-functional engineering efforts in a fast-paced robotics environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create and modify SolidWorks CAD models, assemblies, and engineering drawings for new and existing robotic products
  • Support engineering and manufacturing teams with detailed design and drafting tasks
  • Develop and maintain engineering drawings, assemblies, and bills of materials (BOMs)
  • Review and update existing drawings across multiple projects and product lines
  • Apply and support best practices related to engineering drawings and GD&T standards
  • Provide guidance and support to engineering teams regarding drawing standards and manufacturing documentation
  • Assist with concept development and component selection for robotic systems and assemblies
  • Support prototype assembly and evaluate component fitment and functionality
  • Work closely with quality teams to support inspection processes for custom-manufactured components
  • Ensure compliance with engineering playbooks, quality standards, and best practice procedures
  • Interface effectively with engineers, manufacturing personnel, vendors, and cross-functional teams
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives and contribute to team development efforts
  • Follow all company safety, quality, and documentation standards
  • Support additional engineering and product development projects as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • Associate degree in Mechanical Design, Drafting, or related field, or equivalent experience
  • 5–7+ years of experience in a Designer / Drafter or mechanical drafting role within engineering or manufacturing environments
  • Expert-level proficiency with SolidWorks CAD software
  • Strong experience with:
    • Engineering drawing layouts
    • GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing)
  • Knowledge of materials used in manufactured components and assemblies
  • Ability to read, interpret, and create detailed engineering documentation
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, especially Excel
  • Strong attention to detail and quality orientation
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within engineering teams
