Description:

The A's are seeking a strategic and experienced communications professional to lead the Club's baseball communications efforts. Reporting to the Senior Vice President of Marketing & Communications, the Director, Baseball Communications serves as the primary communications partner to Baseball Operations, players, coaches and baseball leadership while developing proactive storytelling opportunities that elevate the organization and strengthen the A's brand. 

This position is based in Las Vegas, Nevada, and will travel regularly to Sacramento for A's home games during the 2027 season, with additional travel throughout the season for road games, Spring Training, and other baseball-related events.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead all baseball communications and media relations efforts for the Athletics.
  • Serve as the primary communications contact for Baseball Operations, players, coaches and baseball leadership.
  • Develop and execute strategic communications plans that support organizational priorities, baseball initiatives, and key announcements.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with local, national and international media.
  • Filter & facilitate all internal and external player/coach requests.
  • Identify, develop and proactively pitch compelling player, coach and baseball operations storylines.
  • Prepare executives, coaches and players for media interviews, press conferences and public appearances.
  • Lead all daily baseball media operations, including credentialing, interview coordination, clubhouse access and gameday media logistics.
  • Oversee the creation and distribution of game notes, media guides, biographies, press releases, roster announcements, and other baseball communications materials.
  • Develop communications strategies surrounding player acquisitions, free agency, trades, roster moves, and other major baseball announcements.
  • Partner with the Content, Social Media and Broadcasting teams to maximize storytelling opportunities.
  • Monitor media coverage and industry trends to identify opportunities, inform communications strategy, and proactively address emerging issues.
  • Support international media relations and coordinate communications surrounding global baseball initiatives and international players.
  • Work cross-functionally with Marketing, Brand, Content, Broadcasting, Community Relations, and Business Operations to ensure consistent organizational messaging.
  • Manage and develop Baseball Communications staff, interns, and seasonal personnel.
  • Travel with the Major League club throughout the season, including Spring Training, road games, and other team events.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations or a related field.
  • Seven (7) or more years of communications or media relations experience, preferably in Major League Baseball or professional sports.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in AP style writing and editing, with strong attention to detail
  • Exceptional written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong understanding of Major League Baseball, Baseball Operations, and the professional sports media landscape.
  • Experience serving as a strategic communications advisor to senior executives and organizational leadership.
  • Proven ability to build trusted relationships with media, players, coaches and front office personnel.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability and willingness to travel extensively throughout the baseball season.
  • Willing & able to work a non-traditional schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays.
