Position Overview:

The Town of Avon, Colorado, is accepting applications for a Waterslide Attendant!

TheWaterslide Attendant position aids Lifeguard Operations through inspection, operation and dispatching patrons using the large Waterslide. This position is a non-Lifeguard certified role that aids in the emergency response and care of patrons, prevents injuries, and identifies unsafe conditions of the waterslide amusement ride. This position is required to work a flexible schedule, which includes weekends, nights, and holidays.

Essential Functions:

  1. Thoroughly inspects the Waterslide riding surface by walking barefoot the entire flume and riding the slide one full cycle checking for any hazardous conditions such as gel paint cracks, missing hardware, leaking and excessive movement.
  2. Documents daily inspection using DigiQuatics website, alerts Aquatic Supervisor of any safety issues documented and communicates slide closures to Lifeguard II on duty and Guest Service Representatives.
  3. Operates waterslide by starting and stopping water flow from switch in pool mechanical room as well as checking emergency stop button at designated times
  4. Ensures waterslide closures are communicated to patrons using the chain and "Closed" sign when not in operation
  5. Rides the waterslide one full cycle before starting dispatch duty to ensure rider safety
  6. Verifies rider height requirements and educates patrons on proper use, rules and regulations before using the waterslide
  7. Dispatches riders at safe intervals, checking for splash down area to be clear before dispatching the next rider
  8. Uses a whistle signal to alert Lifeguards of a rider in need of in-water rescue or first aid while also preventing further injuries
  9. Enforces pool rules to prevent injuries and uses Incident Report for any first aid care provided

Qualifications

  • Thorough knowledge of Avon Recreation Center rules, policies, and procedures
  • Thorough understanding of aquatics emergency action plans and ability to assist Lifeguard staff in responding to patrons in need of first aid, CPR/AED. This position is not required to make in-water rescues or meet certification requirements of Lifeguards.
  • Ability to work independently with minimum supervision
  • Ability to facilitate dispatching of waterslide riders at appropriate intervals while providing for the safety of participants
  • Ability to use, lift and move a variety of equipment weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing and ability to follow written and verbal instructions
  • Must possess current American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers or ability to obtain within three (3) months of hire.
  • Ability to pass the American Red Cross Water Competency Sequence to demonstrate minimum swimming ability for personal safety

Special Requirements: A minimum of 18 years of age and American Red Cross First Aid and CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers required. Employment is contingent upon successfully passing a pre-employment swimming test, a drug and alcohol test and may be subject to random, unannounced drug and alcohol testing as outlined in the Town's Drug & Alcohol Policy.
