Restructuring Director – Alvarez & Marsal

San Francisco, CA

Alvarez & Marsal (A&M) is a global consulting firm specializing in turnaround management, restructuring, performance improvement, and corporate advisory services. We provide hands‑on solutions that help under‑performing businesses navigate financial and operational distress and create lasting value.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute restructuring and turnaround plans to improve performance and enterprise value.
  • Manage day‑to‑day operations of the team to ensure plans, budgets, and schedules are adhered to.
  • Act as the contact for assigned workstreams within client engagements.
  • Oversee analysis of company business plans, including model creation and presentation of cash‑flow and financial statements.
  • Lead clients through working‑capital improvements, bankruptcy preparation, liquidation analysis, credit negotiations, and claim processing.
  • Assess and develop key operational performance drivers and cost‑reduction initiatives.
  • Implement cash‑conservation guidelines and controls.
  • Train, mentor and evaluate junior staff.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience in corporate restructuring, investment or commercial banking, consulting or related financial roles; 5+ years of direct restructuring experience.
  • BA/BS and/or MBA/MS in Accounting, Finance or a related analytical field.
  • Fundamental understanding of Chapter 11 proceedings.
  • Preferred certifications: CTP, CIRA, CPA, CFA.
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and Word.
  • Strong analytical and operational insight, including cash‑flow forecasting.
  • Proven leadership of workstreams and mentorship of junior talent.
  • Proficiency in financial modeling and business‑plan development.
  • Excellent organizational, problem‑solving, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Team player capable of thriving in a fast‑paced, entrepreneurial environment.
  • Ability to influence and build credibility with clients.
  • Commitment to A&M’s cultural values (integrity, leadership, objectivity, inclusive diversity, fun).
  • Willingness to travel extensively.

Salary and Benefits

Annual base salary ranges from $200,000 to $225,000, plus discretionary bonus opportunities. Eligible employees also receive health benefits, retirement contributions, paid time off, and additional fringe benefits in accordance with company policy.
