What is a direct marketing intern?

Direct Marketing Interns are entry-level professionals who assist marketing teams in executing targeted campaigns that promote products or services directly to consumers. Their responsibilities often include supporting email marketing, managing customer databases, coordinating mail campaigns, and analyzing campaign performance. Interns in this role gain hands-on experience with marketing tools, data analysis, and communication strategies while working under the supervision of experienced marketers. This position is ideal for students or recent graduates seeking to build practical skills in direct marketing and customer engagement.

What are some typical projects a direct marketing intern might work on during their internship?

As a Direct Marketing Intern, you can expect to assist with a variety of projects such as developing email marketing campaigns, creating and segmenting contact lists, drafting copy for promotional materials, and analyzing campaign performance metrics. You'll often collaborate with the marketing, creative, and data teams to ensure campaigns are targeted and effective. This hands-on experience helps you develop practical skills in campaign management and audience engagement, while also providing opportunities to present your ideas and contribute to team meetings.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a direct marketing intern, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Direct Marketing Intern, you need foundational knowledge in marketing principles, data analysis, and strong written communication, often supported by a relevant degree or coursework. Familiarity with email marketing platforms, CRM systems, and basic analytics tools like Google Analytics is typically required. Strong organizational skills, creativity, and the ability to collaborate with teams are standout soft skills in this role. These abilities are crucial for executing effective campaigns, analyzing results, and driving engagement in a fast-paced marketing environment.

Marketing Intern – Fall 2026

Location: Cleveland, Ohio

Employment Type: -Part Time, Non-Exempt

Position Overview:

We are hiring a part-time Marketing Intern for the Fall 2026 semester to work directly with our marketing lead across the full mix of what a B2B marketing team actually does. No two weeks will look the same. You will spend your time on a variety of projects such as preparing for one of our fall industry events, building contact lists for a campaign, designing materials, reviewing assets before they ship, or helping welcome visitors to our downtown Cleveland office. You will get your hands on a little bit of everything, with real responsibility.

Key Responsibilities

• Event preparation support for our fall event calendar: logistics research, attendee and prospect lists, materials, promotion, and post-event follow-up

• Build and clean contact lists (for example, extracting contacts from event lists) that feed our multichannel email campaigns

• Create marketing materials in Canva: one-pagers, graphics, and event collateral

• Help prepare for office visitors and support the sales team with one-off requests

• Support internal culture and team-building activities

• Review marketing assets for accuracy, consistency, and brand alignment before they go out

• Draft occasional content, such as a blog article or email copy, as campaigns need it

• Assist with campaign planning, reporting, and SEO/AEO research

What You Will Learn

• How B2B event marketing actually works, from pre-event planning through post-event lead follow-up

• How contact data becomes an email campaign inside a real multichannel demand generation program

• A professional marketing stack: CRM, email sequencing software, Canva, Semrush, Loomly, Google Analytics, and more

• How to work directly with a sales team and understand what marketing looks like from their side

• Direct mentorship with daily direction and regular feedback on your work

• How to use AI in marketing, including AI-assisted content and optimizing for AI search

Who You Are

• A current student in marketing, communications, business, event management, or a related field

• Resourceful: you try to solve problems and look things up on your own first, but you are not afraid to ask questions

• Detail oriented: you notice the little things, double-check your own work, and would never let a typo out the door

• A strong communicator, written and verbal, comfortable interacting with teammates, vendors, and office guests

• Organized enough to juggle event deadlines, class schedules, and multiple projects at once

Details

• Part-time, 15–20 hours per week, through December 18, 2026

• Hybrid schedule with regular time in our downtown Cleveland office, typically 2–3 days per week, with flexibility around class schedules and business needs

• Course credit supported if your program offers it

• Potential to continue beyond the fall semester based on performance and business needs
