What is direct logistics?

Direct logistics refers to the process of managing the transportation and distribution of goods directly from the manufacturer or supplier to the end customer, without intermediate storage or handling. This approach streamlines the supply chain, reduces delivery times, and minimizes storage costs. Direct logistics is commonly used in industries that require fast, efficient delivery, such as e-commerce and perishable goods. It relies on effective coordination, real-time tracking, and strong partnerships with carriers.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a direct logistics professional?

To excel as a Direct Logistics professional, you need strong organizational skills, analytical abilities, and a solid understanding of supply chain management, often backed by a relevant degree or experience in logistics operations. Familiarity with logistics software such as SAP, Oracle, or transportation management systems (TMS) and certifications like APICS or CSCMP are commonly required. Excellent problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills help you navigate challenges and coordinate across departments. These competencies are crucial for ensuring efficient movement of goods, cost-effectiveness, and high customer satisfaction.

By building strong relationships with colleagues in other departments, Direct Logistics professionals can proactively address challenges and improve overall operational flow.

We're looking for people who take ownership, adapt quickly, and approach challenges with a solution-focused mindset. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys being hands-on, can confidently navigate changing priorities, and communicates effectively with carriers, vendors, and internal partners to keep product moving.

You'll work alongside passionate teammates who are supportive, direct, and action-oriented in a dynamic retail environment where every day brings new opportunities to problem-solve and improve.

If you enjoy tackling challenges, working with great people, and helping deliver a little happiness to our stores every day, you'll feel right at home.

  • Ensure vendors follow shipping guidelines, labeling standards, and routing instructions

  • Troubleshoot delays, shortages, damages, and service failures
  • Communicate clearly with Store Operations and internal teams when issues arise

  • Own resolution from start to finish - not just escalation

Store & Cross-Functional Support

  • Partner with Store Operations, Planning and Allocation, Merchandising, Production, and Customer Service teams
  • Support new store openings, store resets, and urgent shipments as needed
  • Identify priority and time-sensitive deliveries and coordinate execution
  • Demonstrate ownership and accountability within supported areas

Volume, Performance & Cost Management

  • Monitor forecasted versus actual shipment volumes
  • Maintain performance and financial reporting for assigned logistics areas
  • Track key metrics including on-time delivery, service performance, and freight cost variances
  • Develop and maintain carrier scorecards and support regular business reviews with logistics partners
  • Identify trends, recurring issues and improvement opportunities

Process Ownership | Project & Administrative Support

  • Document and maintain logistics SOPs
  • Recommend process improvements to reduce costs and improve service level
  • Support special logistics projects as assigned
  • Perform other duties as needed to support the logistics organization

Requirements

*This is an on-site role Tuesday-Thursday, with remote work on Mondays and Fridays*

Required

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • Hands-on experience working with carriers and parcel shipping (FedEx/UPS)
  • Experience supporting retail store deliveries or vendor shipments
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Preferred

  • Experience supporting multi-node retail distribution networks
  • Experience working with 3PLs
  • Experience managing freight claims and billing discrepancies
  • Familiarity with carrier scorecards and freight cost reporting
  • Associate or Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Business or related field
