Stop Data Centers Organizing Fellow

Food amp; Water Watch is looking for fall organizing fellows to join our team and help organize to stop data centers in the Central Valley. The fall organizing fellow will work closely with our on-the-ground organizers, volunteers, community partners, and other staff at Food amp; Water Watch. This position must be based in the Central Valley (Fresno, Kern, Kings, and/or Tulare counties).

About the position

The Stop Data Centers Organizing Fellow will be overseen by the Central California Organizing Manager and will work with other staff on the organizing, policy, digital and communications teams to support Food amp; Water Watch’s work. The fellows will conduct outreach through phonebanking and door-to-door canvassing, focusing on communities experience water scarcity. This position will run through November 3. Hours are flexible; fellows will work no more than 39 hours per week.

Salary: $25/hourly

Location: Fresno, Kern, Kings, and/or Tulare counties

Responsibilities:

1. Conduct outreach. Our goal is to find Central Valley residents who care about our issues and mobilize them to take action. We will primarily focus on door-to-door canvassing in communities, experiencing water quality issues or water scarcity, such as Porterville and Tulare. On days when the weather doesn’t allow for canvassing, we will phonebank instead.
2. Collect stories. When we find residents with particularly compelling stories, we may ask them to allow us to record them sharing their story.
3. Transport to target communities. Fellows will need to transport themselves to the communities where we’re conducting outreach. If other team members are located nearby, carpooling may be possible. This driving is reimbursed at the Federal reimbursement rate, $0.76 per mile.
4. Regularly report on work to your supervisor.
5. Carry out other projects as assigned.

Qualifications:

• Organizing or advocacy experience, either paid or volunteer. This could include campus organizing, volunteering with a political campaign, or an organizing or advocacy non-profit.
• Familiarity with CA politics and communities.
• Commitment to Food amp; Water Watch’s core values of justice, human dignity, fair treatment, and equity.
• Ability to work effectively with people of diverse racial, ethnic, class, age, gender, and sexual orientation backgrounds.
• Excellent verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work remotely using basic online programs, including email, Slack, and Google docs.

Desired but not required skills and experience:

• Experience with digital outreach tools, including phone banking.
• Experience supporting event logistics.

Compensation: $25/Hour

This is a temporary, part-time internship and is not eligible for other benefits. Mileage, meals, and supplies will be reimbursed.
