 PROJECT MANAGER II
The University of Alabama at Birmingham

The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) seeks a Project Manager II for the Office of Strategic Initiatives. The primary responsibility of this position is to provide project coordination, implementation support, and operational assistance for high-impact initiatives originating from the Office of the President. This role supports initiatives by managing project plans, timelines, deliverables, stakeholder communications, and implementation activities.

The incumbent will work closely with the Executive Director to support the coordination and implementation of assigned initiatives, maintain organized communication and follow-through, and help keep projects aligned, on track, and well documented.

Position is hybrid-eligible following the probationary period.

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

Project Coordination & Execution Support
    Manages detailed project plans, schedules, task lists, and logistics assigned by the Executive Director. Ensure documentation, action items, and follow up steps are completed accurately and on time.
Tracks progress against milestones, identifies delays or barriers, and elevates issues.

Stakeholder Engagement and Meeting Support
    Schedules and organizes meetings, working groups, and cross unit sessions.
    Prepares agendas, background materials, presentations, and summaries.

Research, Analysis, and Reporting
    Conducts background research, compiles data, and summarizes findings to support initiative planning and assessment.
    Prepares briefing materials, status updates, project dashboards, and progress reports.

Communications and Documentation Management
    Drafts and formats internal communications, presentations, newsletters, and executive-ready materials. Supports the development and maintenance of website and shared platform content.
    Supports preparation and coordination of select communications and documentation with the System Office in coordination with the Executive Director.

Operational and Administrative Support
    Coordinates logistics for events, meetings, strategic visits, task forces, and committees.
    Maintains oversight of filing systems, shared drives, and documentation repositories to support continuity, access, and effective management of strategic initiative materials.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Salary Pay Range: $52,555 - $60,000
 

Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Business or a related field and five (5) years of related experience required. Work experience may NOT substitute for the education requirement.

Preferred:
    Master's degree preferred.
    Experience with project planning tools (Project Professional, Asana, Microsoft Planner, etc.), digital communications platforms, website or newsletter content management, and emerging technologies such as AI-enabled productivity tools is preferred.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities:
    Strong organizational and time management skills.
    Ability to coordinate multiple projects and competing deadlines.
    Excellent communication and writing skills, with careful attention to detail.
    Ability to build strong relationships and work collaboratively across diverse teams.
    Strong judgment, professionalism, and discretion when handling sensitive information.
    Ability to support sensitive communications and related documentation with accuracy, discretion, and attention to detail.
    Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, digital communication and content tools, and the ability to learn and apply emerging technologies, including AI, to improve workflow efficiency and project support.
