Job description

Director, Product Design - Global Enterprise Affairs & Accelerator

We are seeking a Product Design Director to lead the Global Enterprise Affairs (GEA) team within the Experience Design organization. You will lead two emerging spaces within Global Enterprise Affairs: the Accelerator and the Enablement and Innovation teams. The Accelerator is an internal, crossโ€‘functional team that works to alleviate complex challenges across Risk, Technology, Product and Design, easing pathways for innovation across the enterprise for new acquisitions and teams on the cutting edge of change. The Enablement and Innovation team creates solutions for a diverse group of Capital One associates.

We require not just a people leader who can tactically execute work, but a strategic design leader who can deliver in the following areas.

  • Cross-Functional Influence and Executive Presence: Influence priorities and drive highโ€‘stakes initiatives across multiple functional areas and senior leaders.
  • Navigating Ambiguity and Context Shifting: Preserve optionality, make decisions with incomplete data, and pivot without losing momentum.
  • Building a Design Org of the Future: Scale the function, design the future organizational structure, and develop current designers as the team grows; leverage technology to broaden the reach of design within the organization.

The Experience Design team at Capital One is focused on enriching digital and physical experiences and creating memorable, meaningful product experiences that build the Capital One brand with humanity. We foster collaboration, authenticity and healthy critique, honor diversity of thought, and strive for a culture of belonging.

Role Qualifications

Here are the competencies expected for this role:

  • Product Design Expertise: Leverage leadership in product design to elevate the design practice, spanning interaction, visual and service design; oversee tools, platforms, frameworks and design systems; develop artifacts such as vision stories, journey maps, blueprints, highโ€‘fidelity designs and prototypes.
  • Leadership: Create an inclusive, positive team environment and set a vision for collaboration.
  • Human-Centered: Champion customer and partner voices, aligning business and customer outcomes to deliver experiences that exceed expectations.
  • Business-Focused: Apply insights about products, processes, customers, competitors and market trends to shape how design solves business challenges.
  • Problem-Solving: Share insights on technical advances and data capabilities, helping teams navigate constraints to deliver bold solutions.
  • Collaboration: Connect teams and processes across portfolios and lines of business to drive coherent experiences and accelerate delivery.
  • Communication: Present work clearly across levels, integrating design frameworks, data and research insights to influence stakeholders.

The ideal candidate has a strong portfolio demonstrating leadership, process, results and impact.

Basic Qualifications:
  • At least 8 years of experience in a product design role
  • At least 3 years of experience leading design teams
Preferred Qualifications:
  • At least 10 years of experience in a product design role
  • At least 5 years of experience leading design teams
  • Experience spanning product design, service design, design strategy and content design
  • Experience leading product design teams across UX and UI, strategy, content and research from strategy through delivery to market
  • Experience partnering with product managers, engineers, marketing and analytics leaders to shape strategy, OKRs, roadmaps and operating models
  • Experience working within a design system
  • Proficiency with web and mobile technologies and platforms
  • Expertise with design and prototyping tools such as Figma
