General Dentist | Mission-Driven FQHC

Near Wichita, Kansas

Our mission-driven dental clinic is seeking a General Dentist to join its growing dental team at our Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC). This is an exceptional opportunity for a dentist who wants to provide comprehensive care, serve underserved and rural populations, and build a long-term career within a stable, expanding organization.


Our FQHC is the 4th largest health center in Kansas and has been recognized for its commitment to quality with 10 Gold Level Quality Leader Awards, the Million Hearts Award, and nine National Quality Leader Awards.

Position Overview:

The dental department is experiencing continued growth and currently operates 8 operatories, with an expansion underway to 14 operatories. The practice serves up to 4,800 unique dental patients annually and has an experienced, highly stable dental team.


The incoming dentist will join:

  • 2 full-time experienced dentists, with approximately 5–6 years of tenure and very low turnover
  • 1 Dental Director who provides approximately 0.6 FTE clinical care
  • 20 dental employees and 150 employees across the organization
  • A collaborative integrated behavioral health model
  • A strong pediatric and preventive dentistry focus
  • A mix of Medicaid patient population, along with PPO-insured patients
  • An organization committed to high clinical standards and quality outcomes

The practice is also developing an implant program, in working toward expanding implant services for the future.

The incoming dentist will have the opportunity to provide a broad scope of general dentistry, including:

Rural & Community Outreach

One of the most distinctive aspects of this opportunity is our outreach program.

The dental outreach team serves approximately 70 schools across 10 counties, providing care in:

  • Schools
  • Nursing homes
  • Disability support centers
  • Other community-based settings

The outreach program utilizes portable dental equipment transported in vans and travels as far as 100 miles from the primary clinic. Dentists have an opportunity to participate in this meaningful community outreach and school-based dentistry program while making a significant impact on access to care throughout rural Kansas.

Patient Volume & Clinical Workflow

The practice averages approximately 15 patients per day. Dentists have their own operative columns, with hygiene examinations incorporated between operative patients. The scheduling model is designed to ensure that at least two dentists are onsite. The practice offers a balanced environment that combines meaningful clinical volume with the resources and support of a larger health center.

Schedule

A 4-day work week is available, with flexibility to choose a 4- or 5-day schedule.

Typical Clinic Hours: 7:50 AM – 4:30 PM
  • 30-minute lunch
  • Dedicated operative columns
  • Hygiene exams performed between operative patients
  • Schedule structured to maintain at least two dentists onsite

Potential schedules include:

  • Monday–Thursday
  • Tuesday–Friday
  • Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday
  • Other mutually agreed-upon 4-5 day schedule options
Compensation

Competitive guaranteed base salary plus a production-based compensation opportunity.

Guaranteed Base Salary

New Graduates:

  • Approximately $160,000 base salary
  • Plus production compensation
  • Based on a four-day work week with 32 hours of direct patient care

Experienced Dentists:

  • Approximately $175,000–$185,000 base salary
  • Plus production compensation
  • Based on a 4-day work week with 32 hours of direct patient care

A dentist with 2+ years of experience can realistically expect total compensation in the range of approximately $210,000–$250,000. High-volume, experienced providers may have the opportunity to earn $275,000 or more in total base and production compensation.

Production Compensation

The dentist receives the greater of:

  • Guaranteed base salary, or
  • 28% of net collections

Extended Illness Leave

The organization's Extended Illness Leave program replaced traditional short-term disability and has been well received by employees.

  • Employees can accrue up to 280 hours
  • Accrual is approximately 40 hours per year, allowing for up to 7 weeks of EIL
  • Full salary is paid through EIL beginning on the 7th day of illness
Parental Leave
  • Up to 2 weeks of maternity/paternity leave
  • Separate from PTO and EIL
  • Employees receive 20% off the balance for eligible employee dental, medical, behavioral health and vision/optical services.
