POSITION DESCRIPTION

JOB TITLE: Elementary Librarian

DEPARTMENT: Lower School

REPORTS TO: Principal

STATUS: Full-Time, 10-month

Purpose Statement:

This position serves our lower school students, leading them to Jesus through the use of digital resources, books, activities, and more.

Scope:

The Librarian for Pre-K to 5th grade plays a pivotal role in fostering a love for literature, nurturing information literacy skills, and cultivating a learning environment where curiosity thrives. This position blends the roles of educator, mentor, and guide, shaping young minds through engaging lessons, creative activities, and meaningful interactions with books and digital resources.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Implement dynamic curriculum that aligns with grade-level standards, integrating technology, literacy, and research skills seamlessly into weekly lessons.
  • Foster a passion for reading through interactive read-aloud sessions, book talks, and storytelling activities tailored to different age groups and interests.
  • Teach students how to navigate and evaluate various information sources critically, equipping them with essential research skills to become discerning consumers of information.
  • Integrate educational technology tools effectively into lessons to enhance learning experiences, promote digital literacy, and facilitate exploration of multimedia resources.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to support and enhance classroom instruction, providing resources, co-teaching opportunities, and personalized learning experiences for students.
  • Curate diverse collections of books and resources that reflect the multicultural backgrounds and experiences of students, fostering empathy, understanding, and respect for diverse perspectives.
  • Engage parents and the wider school community through family literacy events, book fairs, and library showcases, promoting a culture of lifelong learning beyond the classroom.
  • Stay abreast of current trends and best practices in library science, education, and technology through ongoing professional development opportunities, workshops, and conferences.
  • Create an inviting, engaging library environment through library displays, centers, makerspaces and other learning experiences.
  • Works to build and curate the library collection, including book processing.

Other Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Library Science, Education, or a related field (Master's degree preferred).
  • Previous experience working with children in an educational setting, preferably in a library or school library environment.
  • Proficiency in educational technology tools, digital resources, and library management systems.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and connect with students, colleagues, and parents effectively.
  • Passion for fostering a love of reading and learning in young learners.

Work Schedule:

Full time (40 hours/week) - However, the incumbent may be required to work an evening or weekend day to attend a CCA event, assist with a special project, or assist in an emergency situation affecting the church facilities.
