DigiPen Institute of Technology is a small, specialized college with campuses in Redmond, Washington (USA), Singapore, and Bilbao, Spain, offering undergraduate and graduate degree programs in Computer Science, Game Design, Digital Audio and Music, Computer Engineering, and Digital Art and Animation. DigiPen has been ranked one of the top 5 game design schools in the country by the Princeton Review for more than a decade.
Beginning Fall 2026, DigiPen will offer its BS CS RTIS, BA Game Design, and BA DECT programs at Jiangsu Second Normal University (JSNU) in Nanjing, Jiangsu, and its BS CS program at Yantai University (YTU) in Yantai, Shandong in the People's Republic of China. Teaching is expected to take place between October and December each Fall, and between April and July each Summer, delivered over 8 weeks on-site.

Position Overview
DigiPen Institute of Technology invites applications from qualified faculty for a semester-based travel teaching assignment at our partner universities in China - Jiangsu Second Normal University (JSNU) in Nanjing, Jiangsu Province, and/or Yantai University (YTU) in Yantai, Shandong Province.
Faculty selected for this assignment will travel to and reside at the partner institution campus for an 8-week intensive teaching period in Fall 2026. During this time, they will teach scheduled DigiPen-accredited courses, which constitutes their full teaching workload for that semester. Remaining faculty responsibilities - including grading, student feedback, and curriculum support - are fulfilled during and immediately following the on-site period.
This assignment is open to current DigiPen faculty from our Redmond, Singapore, and Bilbao campuses as well as external applicants who meet the qualifications below. For external candidates, this is a per-semester engagement tied to the teaching assignment; continued participation is subject to program needs and performance.
Courses Available for Assignment - Fall 2026
Faculty are invited to express interest in teaching any of the following courses, offered across both partner campuses. Specific assignments will be confirmed based on qualifications, departmental scheduling feasibility, and program needs, in consultation with the relevant Department Chair.
Jiangsu Second Normal University (JSNU) - Nanjing, Jiangsu
  • DT-1200: Introduction to 3D Digital Arts
  • DT-1800: Track Survey I (Introduction to Unreal Engine)
  • DES-100: Introduction to Design Process and DES-101: Principles of Interactive Design
  • CS-100: Computer Environment and GAM-100: Project Introduction

Essential Functions/Duties
  • Teach assigned courses in accordance with DigiPen's syllabi, curriculum standards, and learning outcomes
  • Conduct lectures, demonstrations, and critiques in classroom and lab settings at the partner institution
  • Organize class activities, assignments, and milestone reviews within the on-site delivery schedule
  • Grade and critique student work on a timely basis, providing substantive feedback through the partner institution's LMS; training and technical support for the LMS will be provided by partner institution staff
  • Prepare and submit grade reports and student performance documentation in accordance with DigiPen and partner institution process and timelines
  • Offer scheduled office hours to support student learning throughout the assignment period
  • Collaborate with the Dean of China Programs prior to travel to confirm course readiness and lab setup at the partner institution
  • Complete post-assignment reporting to the Dean of China Programs on student progress and delivery quality
  • Participate in program assessment activities, including archiving and documentation of student work
  • Manage Student Teaching Assistants where applicable, including oversight of hours and contributions

Institutional Partnership Activities
  • Serve as an on-site academic representative of DigiPen during the assignment period
  • Work cooperatively with local university faculty coordinators and administrators at JSNU or YTU
  • Participate in relevant orientation activities, student showcases, or program events as scheduled during the on-site period

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field, or equivalent professional experience
  • 4+ years of professional experience in the subject area of the course(s) applied for
  • 2 years of academic experience at college level
  • Demonstrated ability to teach, demonstrate, and critique coursework in a studio, lab, or classroom setting
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication skills and interest in cross-cultural collaboration
  • Willingness and ability to travel to and reside in China for 8 consecutive weeks per semester of assignment
  • Valid passport with no travel restrictions to the People's Republic of China

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree or equivalent in a relevant field
  • 5+ years of professional, including shipped products, published works, or demonstrated industry contributions
  • 2 years of academic experience in any of the DigiPen campuses
  • Prior teaching experience in a post-secondary or higher education setting
  • Experience living or working in China, or demonstrated cross-cultural competency in a Chinese educational or professional environment
  • Working knowledge of Mandarin Chinese (not required but advantageous)
  • Experience delivering curriculum in intensive, block-schedule, or accelerated formats

Compensation
DigiPen offers the following compensation for this assignment, applicable per semester of teaching:
Adjunct Faculty
  • US $7,000 per course (US $14,000 for the two-course assignment)
  • US $50 per day per diem for the full on-site period
  • Roundtrip economy airfare from home city to the partner institution
  • Accommodation at or near the partner institution campus for the duration of the 8-week assignment
  • Weekday lunch provided at the partner institution's faculty dining facilities

Full-Time Faculty - The following is in addition to your regular FT salary
  • US $3,850 travel program bonus per semester of assignment
  • US $50 per day per diem for the full on-site period
  • Roundtrip economy airfare from home city to the partner institution
  • Accommodation at or near the partner institution campus for the duration of the 8-week assignment
  • Weekday lunch provided at the partner institution's faculty dining facilities

On-Site Support and Faculty Welfare
DigiPen and its partner institutions are committed to ensuring that visiting faculty are well-supported throughout the assignment. In addition to the compensation outlined above, the following support is provided:

  • Visa documentation support and guidance for China entry requirements
  • Pre-departure orientation and ongoing academic support from the Dean of China Programs
  • Medical insurance coverage for participants during the duration of the international assignment.

Provided by the Partner Institution (JSNU)
  • On-site LMS access and training; dedicated technical support from partner institution staff throughout the assignment
  • Local administrative support for day-to-day campus logistics, classroom setup, and equipment needs
  • Campus orientation upon arrival, including introductions to key faculty and student affairs contacts

This is a semester-based travel teaching assignment, not a permanent or full-time residential position. All placements are subject to departmental scheduling feasibility and confirmation by the relevant Department Chair prior to finalization.
